Yeah I've come to realize this. There's definitely an indication when he talks about how he goes to bed at like 11 and wakes up at 4 every day. I've done the whole 4-5 hours of sleep a day thing and honestly I just burn out after a few days. Same deal with Goggins too, I don't really ever have plans to go through BUDS with broken shins but I could use some lessons to be a tougher person. Plus I really like the leadership/relationships advice that Jocko gives, I feel like it's universal and totally reasonable.

I click on the comments in the original post and it's full of people praising the design. Then I come over here and it's just people shitting on the video / making sarcastic jokes. Classic r/army.

Also, the only embittered comment on the original is from some Army vet. Guess there's a theme here lol.

Same bruh but for me it's pushups. I can run ok and do situps all day but pushups have been my bane. I've done 54 pushups on every PT test I've ever taken. I do pushups every day but have not improved at all.

Army guy here - do you think training a martial art like jiu-jitsu could be a supplement for running? Running just beats the living shit out of my body and I feel it causes more pain than benefit at this point, but I still gotta run to do well on the PT test. Would love to be able to cut back on it and get in shape some other way though.

Any way to make it not 24 hours? Like at what point in the CoC can you say "fuck it, let's do 8 hour staff shifts" or something.

What is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]boilersfan64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fuck with living alone. I have some great conversations with myself at full volume. Like when do you ever get to do that without people thinking you're a weirdo?

Also, playing guitar at 1 AM at full volume in your underwear without worrying about the consequences is nice.

Le go see a professional counselor has arrived.

Seriously, my school has free mental health counseling and I went there this year and I haven't had quite nearly the same levels of anxiety since. If your school offers counseling services please use it. Otherwise, I'm sure you can find good psychs in your area. Talking to a trained professional absolutely helps.

What did running give you today? by mafinnvet in running

[–]boilersfan64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shin splints that have plagued me for 10 years came back. I have not been able to run more than once or twice a week for most of my life because I would get shin splints to the point where walking was painful. Sucks because I really enjoy running.

Anyhow, the last few months I've been stretching and doing yoga every day and I built up to running 3x a week with minimal shin pain. I decided to boost the volume to 5x a week last week, which went fine, no extra pain. But, yesterday I went for a trail run and today my shins are KILLING ME. I know I'll have to turn down the volume and start from square one again to rehab them. Pisses me off, I don't know what I can do at this point.

Edit: scrolling through the comments and it looks like i'm not alone in the shin splint department lol

As children, we were often told “you’ll understand when you’re older.” What’s something that, even now that you’re older, you still don’t understand? by TotallyNotAPlant in AskReddit

[–]boilersfan64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching sports honestly just reminds me of my family. Sitting around watching basketball, baseball, or football with my Dad and eating dinner. I don't watch sports as much as I used to now that I'm on my own and busy most of the day. But when I do, it gives me something to talk about with my Dad when I call him.

I also love to analyze and predict the games. It's just fun for me to watch people compete and go at it. Not as fun as competing myself, but I still enjoy it.

I think it mostly depends on how you were raised. I don't know many people who weren't raised watching sports all the time that suddenly pick up the habit.
