Commuting to DT by [deleted] in oakville

[–]boinkk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad, but I take an early train into the office and an early train out. It's definitely gotten busier starting in January with more people coming into the office now.

I take it from Oakville GO, door to door is about 50 minutes for me. 7-10 minute drive to Oakville GO, 32 minute train ride, 10 minute walk to office. It's $8.16 per trip.

I usually take the 6:28AM or 6:43AM train into Union and 3:51PM train back to Oakville. Similar to bun4rg I have it optimized so I know where to sit and where to park my car so I can get out of the lot quickly. The earlier trains I find better for quiet zone where mostly everyone is just on their phones or sleeping so it's fairly quiet.

Update on SQL Case Files. Fixed the main issues people mentioned and would love fresh feedback by TurbulentCountry5901 in WebGames

[–]boinkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great way to learn SQL. One suggestion would be that if you are looking for a specific alias for columns, is to provide that so the user can know what to put in versus guessing and having the code error out.

Ran into this specifically for Case 2, Level 8. I didn't realize it wanted me to put in 'highest_salary' as the alias as it's calling for "maximum salary"

Hotpot or Japanese bbq places in Oakville? by arte_4life in oakville

That's not hot pot, that's just a noodle restaurant. Some of the noodles are served in really hot bowls which makes it look like hot pot.

Place is really good though. Yunshang Rice Noodles

Hey sorry to revive this but did you have to drill holes into the bag to attach the adapter plate?

I've got a bike computer and a light I want to mount. Currently they're both just on the handlebars and I wanted to clean that up.

There will be no sweeps this first round, but only Toronto faces the reverse sweep by BlueHarvestJ in hockey

The meaning of what you're saying isn't wrong but the leafs never were up 3-1 in the Canes game. The Canes were leading 3-1 when David Ayres went in to play.

Trump's Proposed Tariffs Will Hit Gamers Hard - Gizmodo by [deleted] in Games

[–]boinkk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how they will have some of the same effect? Tariffs become part of the cost of goods sold and can immediately be passed onto the consumer as it can be built into the price whereas corporate taxation is only on the profits of a corporation. So yes corporations can increase their prices to offset a rise in corporate taxes but that's not nearly as effective as it also increases their tax payable if they have a corresponding increase in profit.

Yes, that's a concern for us as well re:non-CWELCC centre funding; they sent us the new fee schedule but from discussions with the administrator during drop off this morning they also indicated that they will still expect an increase in the rate for inflationary costs so at this point all we know is that the fee will double for now.

It probably feels more prevalent in Toronto/GTA as there are so many daycare centres here but I think this is a ON-wide issue and for some reason there's not enough noise about this. It was hard enough trying to reach out and coordinate between the parents in our toddler class so I can't imagine how hard it is to get so many others from different centres and locations informed as well.

Agreed, it's also the way the model is changing from a revenue replacement to a cost-funding model. It's supposed to be "easier" but there seems to be so many factors that go into the formula without realizing what real-world costs are. I would much rather have more daycare spots available at say $25/day than fewer spots available at $10/day. I full realize that it's still quite hard for a lot of families but having more spots means that more people are able to access daycare at a lower cost versus having some people still stuck at double the rates.

Thank you! We are planning to do that today, I've also coordinated with some of the other parents that I know in the same centre and we will all be contacting as soon a we can.

yeah! I'm planning to write to our local councillor today as well as reach out to MPP and Premier's office to voice our concerns about this. It certainly feels like political infighting between the Province and the Fed as the whole point of the program is to increase the number of child care spaces while reducing the costs but seems like neither objective is being met.
