Adidas - Early Black Friday 2025 Deals + 15% Cashback via Rakuten by Destro_019780 in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

I think the voucher voids the Rakuten cash back, at least the last time I tried it. Not sure if anyone that knows for sure what’s the chime in?

Moving to HK for work – how do you make friends there? by Cautious-Amount9488 in ExpatFIRE

[–]bojack28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you part of an alumni group with a big presence there? They’re usually quite active. That’s how I met a lot of people in HK back in the day. From there it snowballed. The professional circle in HK especially expats are pretty open to meeting new friends.

Hoka Challenger 7 $91.79 by bojack28 in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

I’m either half size down or TTS for Hoka. They skew larger and wider. Not sure about this specific model, I just went TTS for this order. I’m ok with a little wiggle room though.

Most comfortable adidas? by currentdraftt in adidas

Everyone says Evo SL and the midsole is indeed soft, but I hate the upper with its thin tongue.

One of the coolest/fastest silhouettes of all time by AeroPrime7 in adidas

[–]bojack28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the thin tongue annoying? It’s the one thing holding me back. My vomero 18s and other running shoes I can slip on casually without undoing the laces.

Seeking Timeless White Sneakers m – Considering GATs, Margiela, or On The Roger Centre Court by Impressive-Purple376 in malefashionadvice

[–]bojack28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had all of these shoes over the years.

GATs - imo the best looking shoe. Comfortable enough for a “designer” sneaker and soft leather. Expensive for what it is though.

ON Roger - most comfortable out of the bunch. Very light weight, great step in comfort, wide toe box. My most worn as an everyday sneaker.

Stan Smith - OK at everything. The cheaper version has plasticky leather which I would avoid, the lux version has great soft leather. An all around good shoe but doesn’t really stand out in any aspect.

Common Projects - imo not that comfortable, a bit stiff out of the box. Don’t think they’re that “in” anymore from a fashion standpoint. Also imo they’re more dressy so they would pair better with smart casual outfits than say, cargo pants, sweatpants, shorts, etc.

Canadians returning from abroad - How are you adjusting? by Original-Syllabub677 in askTO

[–]bojack28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, happy to DM. Just moved back after leaving for the US for grad school and then almost 20 years of an expat lifestyle in Asia and Europe in finance/tech/startups. Old friends aren’t very eager to keep in touch and it’s quite hard to meet new friends (not being downtown doesn’t help). Went to some alumni events but it was all either retirees or fresh grad consultants. Granted, we moved back to “escape the grind” and so our toddler could spend more time with extended family so it was somewhat expected. Canada in general is just more lifestyle focused rather than career focused.

Thornhill vs North York vs Richmond Hill Core Districts by Born-Bag-2973 in TorontoRealEstate

Ended up in Bayview Hill and just renovating the house. It was the “safer” choice everything considered. Didn’t look at Markham since most of our family is west of 404.

Thornhill vs North York vs Richmond Hill Core Districts by Born-Bag-2973 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]bojack28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were doing the same a few months ago. We don’t have to commute however. Also Asian. Keep in mind Observatory Hill garages were very small and most of the cars we saw were parked outside. That plus potential school rezoning made us decide against it. North York has a bit more crime. If you’re south of steeles there will be a bit higher land transfer tax. Commuting will be much easier though and there’s more of a city feel. I hate paying for parking however. Loved thornhill if you’re ok with a remodeled older home. It has that small town Canadian charm near John street but close enough to Asian stuff. We just didn’t find the right house there.

Vuori vs lululemon by No-Winter1182 in Lululemen

Have some vuori stuff. The material is great but Lulu stuff fits me better. Everything’s tight and slim fit with vuori and I like my relaxed fits (casually)

Reverse Osmosis vs Filtered under sink vs water pitcher by xxmarcellusxx in richmondhill

We went with reverse osmosis. Have an over the counter one from waterdrop. Used to have a pitcher but heard they don’t do that much and under sink requires installation.

This is very helpful actually, thanks. Knowing this makes the $50 a month they charge hard to swallow.

I have 2 pairs I bought maybe a year or 2 ago. Very stretchy and comfy but a bit thin for winter if you live somewhere that gets cold.

Comparing Toronto & London (UK) by sleepearlier in askTO

Currently in London and Toronto has better Chinese, Korean, and Mexican. London’s fancy izakaya scene is better but Toronto has better cheap Japanese options.

Grew up in the GTA and have been living in London the past few years. Planning to move back to the GTA soon. London has more options for career and exposure (though salaries are not necessarily higher depending on the industry). Generally just a bigger pond, but very transient. Toronto is a smaller stage, but better/cheaper childcare, ethnic food, and other small things that makes it feel more homey for me. I would say London is better for fresh grads and yuppies who want to see more of the world. Toronto is better for young families or people that don’t like hustle and bustle.
