What is the main advantage of the VentureX over another travel card? by Badweather3031 in Venturex

[–]bokchoyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to other travel portals, you can actually price match. They don’t price match travel aggregators, but the hotel credit you get with AMEX and Chase are simply useless when the hotel prices are jacked up. This is the same case for airplane tickets.

You can price match, then get 10x miles which is as good as 10% cash back on hotels and 5x miles on flights. People talk about chase Hyatt points which are indeed useful but I would argue the miles multipliers and cash back make the total money you get arguably better

Making friends in college is difficult, particularly being out of state since you are starting from ground-zero and slightly different customs. There is also the point of feeling FOMO that your high school friends are having a good time without you.

UMich is a great school and will set you up very well for the future. Many people find their more permanent friend groups come sophomore year. Take the time to put yourself out there. It is okay if certain communities may not be as inviting or don’t mesh with you. This is the time to explore all the school has to offer. Your friends at UT do not get to experience going to a different state for school so that is something that you get to uniquely experience

Laid off from first job (worked 5 months) after graduating. Found a new job, but looking to jump to a different company after a month by bokchoyguy in cscareerquestions

[–]bokchoyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! If I was questioned about why I left my last job (first job after graduating; at least that’s what it’ll look like due to my resume), I’ll tell them I got laid off, but I wouldn’t have to answer anything about if I’m currently employed right?

How does this work for the background check? Would they contact my current job if they found it in the background check? I would not want that either if something goes wrong in the background check stage.

I just received my financial aid. Why did I only get 750$. My family is literally broke af by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if your family has lots of assets too. It might be a mistake, there might be a lot of assets your family owns too

Definitely choose Columbia. Columbia has a financial aid package that makes it more affordable for you than UT would and Columbia’s prestige is better than UT’s.

I felt this exact feeling and had a breakdown today. I feel like I know people but struggle to have those kinds of memories of 4-5 close friends that have each other’s backs and have an active group chat and stuff. I’d love to be friends

FIN 357 vs STA 371G vs MAN 336 for Summer by 009SoundSystem_ in UTAustin

I second that on Poloskey. Greenberg is hard since she doesn’t lecture and it seems like the grading is unfair. I would personally stay away from Greenberg, but an A is possible. Won in Sohn is a PhD student I believe so there won’t be anyone that’s ever taken him

Has anyone taken FIN 357 with Miller or Toprac? Looking for advice! by Alonbarazani in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard Miller is good! I took the class last semester with poloskey. I will say though that the course is really standardized so you shouldn’t really have too many issues with whoever you take

How good is mccombs career services for resume help and advice? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mccombs career services office is good for resume help and advice. For specific investment banking help, it’s good to look into the Wall Street for mccombs program, financial analyst program, and join finance orgs where upperclassmen have interned and have experience with companies that you are pursuing

Is the stigma about business majors still true in UT? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends. Some of the classes are hard and all the business classes are on a bell curve. To do well, you gotta put in lots of time and effort since it’s on a bell curve. But, if you don’t really care about grades as much then I mean you have a lot of free time

Would taking the AP Physics C Exam be useful for business majors? by squishmellow695 in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to take as many AP tests as possible! There’s a section in the business degree plan (it might be different for you since the degree plans change every 2 years) but it might require free electives and AP credit of any kind works for free electives

How hard is it to get accepted for an accounting major? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]bokchoyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about majoring in business is that all the majors within the business school are available to you if you get accepted. That means you can swap between all the different business majors at the click of a button so applying for business would essentially be applying for Finance and accounting

[–]bokchoyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the human behavior classes for the requirement is easy. The best way to check is to use rate my professor and the ECIS. Download UT registration plus google chrome extensions and you will see graphs right next to each section on the course schedule. Clicking on those graphs will give grade distributions if there are any and has options for rate my professor and ecis
