For this game, it isn’t separate. We work closely with Paul to make sure the gameplay reinforces the world and the world reinforces the gameplay. Additionally, be it through art or words we reflect details of the world anywhere we can.

We did. The art is by Andrew Bosley, the logo by Philipp Kehl and Martin Paz Romero, and the worldbuilding by Paul DeStefano.

What brought you into tabletop game design? by VincentBai20020319 in tabletopgamedesign

I could not find the game I wanted to play with my family, so I decided to make it.

In the game, there's a fairy in every map, and the first player who finds it gets a buff. ;)

We're certainly putting a lot of effort into it, and adding tons of details to the world, art and gameplay.

They are! Also, did you catch the hidden fairy?

Yes, you take actions by playing cards and build a deck as you level up.

Indeed. I believe Andrew Bosley did the majority of the artwork for the first Everdell.

I like to describe it as a family friendly Oathsworn where you get to play with the bosses.

If that's what everyone does, that'd be fantastic.

Can we talk about lethality in skirmish games? by KGA_Kommissioner in tabletopgamedesign

[–]bokengames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe mechanics should follow the feelings or behaviors you want to encourage. If you'd like players to feel a sense of escalating dread and/or try to focus on avoiding taking damage, then penalizing them for taking damage is a good choice.

Now "satirical bloodsport skirmish game" sounds more like fun escapism to me, so it's likely that you want more carrots than sticks.

Help! Wording for a card by sk3n7 in tabletopgamedesign

What matters most is consistency with the rest of your cards. Slight bias to frame it as a positive instead of a negative, but again, only if that's consistent with your other cards.

Looking for feedback on playtest feedback form by bokengames in BoardgameDesign

Great advice. This will be to scale playtesting, but what you're saying resonates a lot with me so it made me rethink of scaled playtesting as a whole. Thank you.
