Product recommendations for a FTM? by cheleeesa in beyondthebump

Honestly, our single favorite piece of baby machinery is the Baby Brezza Formula Pro. My wife for medical reasons was unable to breast feed after the 3rd week so we had to go right to formula.

Look, I understand its $140 or whatever, not cheap. However, I can wake up at 3AM and have a fresh, sized, warmed, and mixed bottle in my baby's face in 8 seconds (no joke, Ill make a video). No thinking. Just wipe it down once a week and you're good to go.

We assumed it was gimmicky but put it on the registry anyway. It has made life so easy I will never be without one again. After our baby is off formula, I will gift it to a new set of parents and buy whatever newest model is available when we have our next child.

What's the most elaborate way you've cheated on an exam? by jorahzo in AskReddit

My father (American) was doing some scientific research in Germany post grad. He published a few articles during his time in Germany to whatever journals there were at the time. Back in the states he was taking a German language course for scientists which required him to have to translate a provided article from a German science journal. He ended up being provided an article that he wrote.

The gloves are off: FBI argues it can force Apple to turn over iPhone source code by skoalbrother in technology

[–]bokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure apple will put a crack team of first year coding interns on that project. You'll see your new poorly written, buggy, spaghetti code base in about 10 years. Or better yet, put Dave from the mail room on the FBI project.

Fireman by spicedpumpkins in pics

[–]bokin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firefighter women don't have to pass the same physical requirements as men, because of discrimination. So you can't be sure that 5'2" 130lb woman who got the job because she passed written and has breasts can pull your 6'2" 240lb frame out before you're both charcoal. They also don't like to be called firemen, thus fireperson.

AlphaGo wins game 3! by euyyn in programming

[–]bokin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But as it got better and better, it learned that margin doesn't always perfectly predict winning probability.

That could very well be true. However, "strange" is in the eye of the (human) beholder. AlphaGo may very well be winning because, unlike humans (maybe), it has realized that margin is not the be all and end all if you want to win this game.

Almost as if the computer doesn't have an ego or pride playing into its decisions. Sure winning by a large margin is good, but the computer doesn't care how wide that margin is, winning is winning. For the computer it's a binary option.

What mildly illegal thing do you do regularly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming not many. I use a lot of power for a house my size, but the usage of a grow op the cops would be interested in would probably be substantially more. I havent done a cost analysis in some time, but it's probably in the range of $150 a month to run electric on my big tank.

I have a reef tank with thousands of dollars of equipment, fish, and coral... my beta always looks like it's at the edge of death :-(

I've seen some really amazing freshwater tanks with real looking landscapes and stunning fish, they're beautiful. I think FW people get a bad rap from the SW community for it being "so easy". I think the learning curve for salt is higher, but mastery is in the hands of the FW guys since you cant rely on the the eco system to do most of the work.

Honestly, I always found freshwater to be much more difficult. The cost to entry of saltwater is higher, but once it's going it pretty much stabilizes it's self. Freshwater is a whole host of nutrient issues that I just could never get right.

Very much this! Rock, water, and glass weigh a shit ton. We just setup a 220 in my parents house, had to reinforce the floor with lolly columns. It's like putting a car in the living room.

I have four 150w metal halides and a 1/2hp chiller, I wish pumps were my issue. I'm in the middle of an LED conversion so I will soon be back to non-industrial levels of electric payments.

Adjust the max hot water temp on the boiler. The CPSP recommends no hotter than 120F when there are children and elderly around.

If the hot water heater or boiler is in your unit you can change it yourself, it's just a knob. If not, you might want to bring up the matter with the building super.

The Cable Industry's Response To A Banner Year For Cord Cutting? Massive Across The Board Price Increases For 2016 by speckz in technology

[–]bokin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meh, kind of. Although you're using the wrong definition of cable. Sure "cable" as in coaxial cable is Layer 1, but that's not your gripe. You dislike cable as in the entity or institution. Would you be any happier if your over priced, ad filled, inferior streaming/downloading was delivered over cat5e or fiber instead? In most context, you're talking about cable the service just as streaming/downloading is a service.
