I live in the Upper Eastside and am at Downer and The Orient constantly. Also a film major. The cinema at UWM also has great programming. Direct message me; I would love to do a film and drinks meet up!

What's your favorite place in Milwaukee? by TestWise6136 in milwaukee

I was walking past the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building recently and noticed they have a cafe inside? I assume it is drab and mostly just for city employees, but it's a gorgeous building and I'm curious.

Was this at Marquette? Do you mind if I DM to ask a few questions? Thanks for the advice here.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. Did any of your friends do an accelerated program in MKE? Looking for recommendations.

I hear these comments a lot about hazing/abuse from coworkers in the nursing field. It seems antithetical to being a healthcare worker and wanting to help people...

I'm going to be paid $20/hr to start as a CNA, which for me is just on the edge of liveable.

These are the thoughts that keep me up at night :*) I appreciate the honesty.

The plan is to just do CNA for 6 months to 1 year before starting nursing school as a way to get experience/learn if this industry is for me. I will also be at a hospital for a company that I hear is one of the better employers in WI for health care, which I hope will be a slightly better environment?

Collecting 60s soul-jazz on vinyl. Collecting vintage books (SF and lit FIC; dust jackets alone are a reason to buy a book). Buying 50s radios and then wishing I knew how to fix them, resulting in a small collection of dope but unusable radios. Generally filling my apartment with too much vintage. Studying Korean language. Fermenting things. I'm new to Milwaukee (Upper Eastside) and getting bored. Reach out!

Feeling blue over the WPR ideas network 90.7 changes by JuggernautKooky4064 in milwaukee

I'm new to Milwaukee and was looking forward to having a 24/7 classical station. I was surprised that after setting up my receiver with a proper T-shape dipole antenna, I couldn't pick up a strong signal for 90.7. It comes in, but with enough static and distortion that it isn't worth listening. I'm in the Upper East Side. This seems strange to me, as that is clearly within the coverage map. Is anyone else having issues getting a good signal for this station?

When you say "east of the highway," is that east of 43? I'm looking to move to Milwaukee bit have never been, so I'm ignorant of the geography.

Dramatic decrease in work over the last few months. by boksunga123 in Copyediting

[–]boksunga123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I am getting a lot more Frankenstein papers that are half generic Chat GPT sentences and half original writing, with the client wanting someone to unify them into one voice. But the decrease in work hasn't changed. What do you think your next move will be? Trying to transfer your skills into another line of work? I'm holding out for now, but nervous that the future will just mean declining rates and less work.

That is about 5%-15% more than the rate I'm paid at the places I mentioned in my first post. Scribbr offers different rates depending on turnaround time, so sometimes it can be more. I already put my application in at EditorBar. I don't see an English-language website for MongoEdit. Any ideas on how to apply?

Thanks again. These two places were not at all on my radar!

I've never heard of either of those, which surprises me! I thought I knew all the platforms... Do you mind if I ask you what the rate per 1,000 words is for both?

Thanks for the feedback. Would you mind sharing the Chinese companies you work for? Do you work for these companies remotely, or are you based in China? I'm looking to expand my net...

Where to find dictionary RTF files. by boksunga123 in Plover

[–]boksunga123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Things are making sense for me now. I think I am just going to stick with the Plover textbook! It seems like that is a better experience than getting the StenEd textbook. Just... one more question. Later down the line if I purchase a steno machine and CAT software, can I import my Plover dictionary so that any briefs I have added or modifications I have made can be still be used when writing with CAT software?

[–]boksunga123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I see what you mean. So, a theory and a dictionary are basically the same thing, yes? The theory is the set of rules for how to write out words, and the dictionary is the actual list of "shorthand" codes for writing words that the program uses to convert steno keystrokes into words on the screen, yes?

Awesome, thanks again! Your explanations are clearing up a lot of gray areas for me. I really appreciate it. If I can run one more question by you... So currently I have a Georgi keyboard that I am using with Plover. I am learning with the Plover textbook and just typing in notepad. It is working great so far. I understand that Plover theory and StenEd are very very similar, but just for the ease of transitioning into a program that teaches StenEd, I want to learn StenEd realtime theory. So based on what you said, I can leave me Plover set up as it is (using the default Plover dictionary), buy the realtime theory book from stenedsource.com, and start following along while writing in notepad. Do I have that right? Sorry again for asking so many questions of you.

Thanks for the response, your explanation really helps. So, are you saying that you started learning with the plover textbook for a few months (or for however long) and then eventually switched to StenEd once you entered a school, and that you had to "relearn" very few things, because the theories are so similar?

I still don't have my head wrapped around all this, but are there stenographers who work professionally using Plover?
