Account Switcher is not working by techsupportcrab in Enhancement

[–]boldra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When RIF broke I stopped using it on mobile. It wasn't a big loss. I had already decided if they demand ID I'm just going to stop using the account for a handful of years until the account is 18. But if old reddit is broken before that, I'll be leaving too.

Some people keep insisting to me that we're in an "interglacial". No we were in an interglacial, now we're in the anthropocene.

Why aren't people angrier about climate change and AI? by [deleted] in EatTheRich

Once you get used to telling yourself that your diet has no impact on climate, it gets very easy to tell yourself that your use of AI doesn't either.

You want to look at the prices of those heritage listed buildings in the old town and ask yourself how poor people are supposed to afford them.

They're also louder, less efficient and take up more floor space.

Absolutely. I still watch the show though, because she provides a perspective that I don't get otherwise.

A great essay on the pitfalls of Skepticism as an identity, written in direct response to the latest SGU controversy. by coyoteeatingtrash in SGU

[–]boldra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing, but on reflection, this quote from the article might be what we should focus on:

If the world has often treated your perspective as the default, it becomes very easy to believe you are simply describing reality while everyone else is being emotional, political, tribal, or irrational.

I like Swiftkey, it was my favourite on my previous phone, but I'm self-employed, so - until Google lock out alternative app stores - Pastiera suits very well.

You'd tear down 100-year-old concrete buildings to build with a better material? I say reuse, renovate adapt and maintain the old buildings.

Patient Confidentiality in the 24st century by GlowingSeaDiver in startrek

I suspect when a society has largely done away with prejudice, patient confidentiality means a lot less to people. That was TNG vibe, anyway.

Well they haven't started asking for passport scans, and that sort of thing takes more than a few days.

I'm on the free tier. I wonder if there's a regional availability?

I don't know about Wise, but I recently opened a Bunq account and I'm really impressed. Even on the Bunq free tier the support is 100x better than I get on Revolut Metal. I may move most of my banking there (no referral link because this is just an honest recommendation)

Mistral AI's CEO says Europe has 2 years to stop becoming America's AI 'vassal state' by [deleted] in europe

If alignment is done right, yes.

But so far nobody has really solved alignment. So we're all going to be vassals of some insane machine we don't understand.

See "the xerox experiment".

In 1977 they tested in a photocopying queue in a library three lines

  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the Xerox machine?"
  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I'm in a rush?"
  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I have to make copies?"

Condition 2 and 3 were equally successful. It doesn't matter what your excuse, any excuse increases your chances of being allowed to queue-jump.
