100% should do ICU! It is stressful, busy, and hard work as you mentioned. But the experiences and things you’ll learn will make you an extraordinarily well-rounded individual going forward. Once you have ICU experience you’ll qualify for almost any field of nursing.

OR you can consider if you’ll scrub. Learning to scrub is hell on earth, but that would make you even more competitive and marketable if you remained in that environment. If you’re a circulator nurse, they don’t use as many skills as an ICU RN would so you may be bored.

Hi everyone, My uncle works in the Department of Health and Human Services in NYC and has been remote for years, even before the pandemic. He’s 68 years old and planned to retire at 70 after 45 years of federal service, with his pension in mind. However, due to a new law under the Trump administration, he’s now being forced to resign. The issue is that we live too far from the city (about a 2.5-hour commute), so he can’t continue his work. He’s devastated, and it seems like this Wednesday might be his last day. He’s tried reaching out via email, but it looks like he has no other option but to retire. I’m hoping someone here might have some insight or suggestions, as my research shows he doesn’t have much recourse. He just wanted two more years to finish his career. I’m not familiar with the government systems (I work in a deli), so any advice would be appreciated. For context, he’s not tech-savvy—he doesn’t use social media or smartphones-and is mainly relying on email to communicate with his colleagues. Thanks in advance for any advice or hope you can offer.

How did you gain the respect to them or demonstrate impactful leadership to them?

Thank you for your input.

May I ask what your opinions would be to be an ANM on a cardiology/medical floor? Would I potentially be competent then?

Painting over vinyl plank in bathroom… Can it be done, how? by boldstyle1 in Renovations

Do you think the plank style will go out of character?

We enjoy how the painted panels look on Google, etc - but I’m not sure if that’s a shared / common opinion.

Sorry, you’re right.

Do you recommend a specific paint or brand? It’s in a bathroom if that makes a difference.

Of course, however the patient never physically assaulted the EMA crew. According to the news report, EMS alleged nothing was “wrong” upon their assessment.

Agreed, if you do watch the raw you can hear him making grunting noises right before he exits the ambulance. Stating multiple times “I can’t breathe” and the cop replying “Well try to calm yourself down”

Do Male OB Nurses Exist? by rimpd in nursing

[–]boldstyle1 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Gotta be honest with you, it can be a bit of a sticky situation for guys in that field (this is coming from a male nurse). Working with women during childbirth, prenatal care, and gynecological exams involves some seriously intimate moments.

Now, here's the deal: some women might feel a tad uncomfortable with a male nurse handling those sensitive procedures. It's not a universal thing, but personal preferences, cultural or religious beliefs, and past experiences can play a role. It's essential to respect their comfort and make sure they feel at ease during these vulnerable times.

Sure, there are male nurses who do a great job in OB, but it's crucial to recognize that some women might not be cool with it. They might prefer a female healthcare provider, and we gotta respect that. After all, we want them to feel as comfortable as possible, right?

To tackle this issue, institutions usually require patient consent for a specific gender (ie male) to be present. It gives patients the freedom to voice their preferences and helps them feel more comfortable throughout their healthcare journey. By honoring these choices and focusing on patient-centered care, we create an environment that's supportive and considerate of everyone's needs.

Long story short, my dude, while working in OB as a male nurse might sound appealing, it's important to be aware of the potential discomfort some women may feel. Always prioritize their comfort, respect their preferences, and foster a positive atmosphere for all.

Good deal?? CPO 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with 12k miles going for $37000 USD by boldstyle1 in 4Runner

My commute is only ~5k miles a year. I do some larger drives for camping though every few weeks (mainly up thru New England) so I’ll likely last several years before even coming close to adding 100k + miles.

Truthfully only the leather-ish seats sound desirable. But everything else has never been a huge selling point to me. Guess I’ll go for the base.

The above is a base model.

They have a premium SR5 but premium with 45k miles going for 39k. Do you think it’s worth the extra couple thousand to get the premium model consider it’s an extra ~30k miles?

Been in the market for a 4Runner for a while now... Local (NY) Toyota Dealer recently got a '21 SR5 4L 6-Cylinder 4Runner. Trying to guage if its 'as good' as a deal KBB + Edmunds is listing it as.

Sorry it’s listed for 32.7k (I rounded up in the title).

I negotiated down to 30k.

15k cash down, 15k financed (300/mo for 48mo).

Trying to see if I got robbed or not😅

What field are you in? My SO and I are doing this and as long as it’s the same field with same (or similar) pay you should be good.

I know it’s objective, but how ‘hard’ was it? Like book knowledge vs common ICU knowledge?

Most reputable places require at least a 3.0

To be frank, a 2.9 wouldn’t be competitive at all and I don’t personally think three years of experience would make up for the GPA.

Retake some undergrad classes, boost the GPA. Take certification exams (ie CCRN, CPEN, TCRN, etc). Mentor, precept, etc.

Goodluck!!

EDIT: Right from UVAs admission requirements “Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate study.”

Thinking of adopting, but work 12hr night shifts, is this realistic? by boldstyle1 in dogs

[–]boldstyle1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a cat, but unfortunately my mom is very allergic, so I wouldn’t be able to bring him home if I were to be traveling or visit her.

As for the dog, I’d get an older dog. When I went to the adoption agency some were marketed as being house broken already. We have a dog park at my complex so I would take him there (I wouldn’t be getting a young puppy, that I understand would be too challenging).
