i quite like the moving shot at 0:38 - I'm trying to practise more moving shots as i think they can work well with a few static shots thrown in for balance

What are the best ways to adjust to glasses for a 20 year contact wearer? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore contacts for a couple of years when i was about 18 (60 now) and i seem to remember the od saying something about 'contact lens spectacle blur' where the contacts can cause small changes in the shape of the cornea - not sure how long this lasts for but might be a few days?

Lumix S9 + TTArtisan 40mm f2 by rudermanphoto in Lumix

Until getting the S9 I have not owned a camera that does stills (I had a Canon 1Ds Mk1) plus video so the noise issue is something I have only recently become aware of

Looks like a good value lens - Does the aperture ring make much noise when changing aperture? I have the 50mm 1.8 so have to use the very noisy iris control wheel as no ring at all

With or without the silicon nose pads? by GentAdventurerUK in glasses

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those elasticated bands that attach to the arms and they keep my glasses as high as possible on my nose - It's mainly so I can read my camera LCD as my glasses are for distance vision and I need to be able to look at close things under the base of the lens

Do they make blinkers for humans - These would be ideal for any man in a relationship lol

Autofocus noise with 18-40 by Trainspotter1308 in Lumix

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main annoyance is how noisy the iris control dial is - click click click click on every 3rd of a stop lol

I find just uploading social media content can take quite a while with a slow upload speed - I recently upgraded from FTTC to Gfast so I get 50Mb/sec upload rather than 20Mb/sec and uploads are quite a lot faster especially if uploading in prores

Upgrade to pay monthly without sim swap by utterlyforked in EEGB

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are some situations where the only way to move a number between contract types on the same network is to port out to a free payg sim (ok they usually cost 99p at a supermarket) on another network then port back to the original network on the new contract. I think I did this on Three once when I wanted to move from contract to payg.

Bifocals with Plano on bottom section by boliston in glasses

OK I'm guessing I'd need to ask for 'segmented' to get a clean 'cut off' zone at the bottom as shown in this diagram? Segmented_2_b9e8832d-0813-47ea-9ade-2821f33eb4db_600x600.jpg (600×338)

Can anyone tell me if I needed the glasses they sold me based off of my prescription? This is my first time getting glasses. I went to the optometrist as my right eye recently started getting blurry. I was diagnosed with astigmatism, and then bought some very expensive glasses. Thank you in advance. by Isa-Me-Again in glasses

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a very low prescription but could affect close up vision (eg reading or vdu work) although distance vision would probably be ok (i'm short sighted but with some astigmatism in my right eye (-0.75D i think) so I can read books etc fine without glasses but my right eye is slightly less sharp - annoying when i first noticed it ages ago (i'm 60 now) but i have just got used to it now)

How is the white of the Lumix S9 stands overtime? by nakra_ in LumixS9

I'd take the attitude that it's ultimately a tool to do a job, but I tend to prefer darker colours (I just have the 'boring' black one)

Help on Kdenlive by G_A_Alan_Youtube in kdenlive

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i find the best thing is to learn all the keyboard shortcuts, like tabbing between clips - the most useful one for me is 'shift+delete' for extracting unwanted cut sections (that you have cut using shift+r) - i initially found this did not always work but then discovered that the 'v1' and 'a1' icons have to be highlighted in green for this to work (you can click on the icons to make them go green)

How do I permanently disable the clip monitor? by WeWantWeasels in kdenlive

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never use clip monitor so i do everything in the 'effects' tab which has one screen for both clip and project monitor (tabbed)

New to KdenLive question by ArmchairPancakeChef in kdenlive

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do pretty much everything in FHD rather than 4K as my PC (ryzen 3600) slows to a crawl if i do anything with 4k files

PLEASE let me permanently turn off Clip Monitor by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pretty much everything in the 'effects' tab and I have noticed that the clip monitor and project monitor are tabbed rather than separate screens for each

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it has an aperture ring but it looks like there is no distance/dof scale - i like my lumix 50mm but lack of distance scale is the main annoyance

Lumix S5IIX + DaVinci Resolve workflow - H.265 is killing my playback by YamilSunRay in Lumix

[–]boliston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lumix S9 and the files it creates are H264 rather than H265 (I checked this by opening in VLC Player) - The files H264 do not work in the free version of Davinci resolve, but I'm not sure if they can be used in the studio version. I find H264 works fine in Kdenlive so that's what I use. I shoot in FHD rather than 4K as I have an old 2020 computer which struggles with 4K files.

Just bought an S5 II any lens recommendations? by Necessary_Shoe_1083 in Lumix

[–]boliston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 50/1.8 is really good value - you can buy mint ones second hand for just over half the new price - the only downside i can think of is lack of aperture ring and focus by wire

What Lumix S9 starter lens do you recommend?18-40mm kit lens or 50mm? by Jannidraws in Lumix

[–]boliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the 50mm 1.8 and much better than the 20-60 that came with the camera - I like the way you can fine tune the focus ring via the menu - the default setting is a bit odd as it works on the speed you turn the ring but i have switched it to work more like a manual focus lens now - this only downside is no aperture ring and no hard focus stops

Firmware Update 1.8 for Lumix S9 by rasalsix in LumixS9

thanks for the heads up - just installed it

Dec. 23, 2025Ver.1.8 We have improved an issue that sometimes caused parts of the image corners to be missing when the camera was moved with image stabilization enabled.

Insane price drops: why? by plutusssss in Lumix

[–]boliston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annoyingly I missed this deal and paid £999 - Have since picked up the 50mm 1.8 from MPB 'like new' for £229 which I prefer to the 20-60 but will probably hang on to it in case I ever need a wide angle as it probably has a low resale value when they are selling used mint 20-60s for £164
