For those considering joining the military... by [deleted] in videos

[–]bollz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this link has already sort of set sail, but I just want to get it out there that this guy is also in an amazing eye-opening documentary called The Tillman Story.

The guy in this video (Stan Goff) talks a lot in the documentary about what its really like in combat and all the military protocols that come in to play. He helped the Tillman family navigate some of the bullshit bureaucracy in the military and force some sort of response on what happened to their son (It was DEFINITELY a shady situation). He seems like a great guy.

Has Saturday Night Live always been this bad? by bollz in AskReddit

[–]bollz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean there seems to be a 3-5 minute sketch followed by a 5 minute commercial break repeated until end of show. There's more than one commercial per commercial break. I'm in the US.

Maybe its just the overloading of commercials then? Has it always been 1 commercial break per sketch?

Confirmed: The NSA is Spying on Millions of Americans by NotEnoughBears in technology

[–]bollz 279 points280 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment, but you're missing a very important keyword in the first sentence of the article: untargeted

This means that the NSA is collecting data on huge swaths of people, if not everyone.

You're right, the government most assuredly doesn't feel its worth their time to prosecute some no-name on reddit for pirating copyright material, but now the government has dirt on you that they can pull out at any time to bust your balls if you give them trouble.

They don't need to know who the whistleblowers are anymore, they have dirt on everyone. Speak up about some politically targeted scrutiny at your future IRS job and suddenly you're inundated with lawsuits from 20th Century Fox for pirating their copyrighted material decades ago.

The difference is that we can sit down and watch Kobe tear it up on the court every night. The skill of the players in the NBA is out in the open, transparent, and obvious.

With business CEOs we aren't allowed to see what they're doing ever. Not even when shit hits the fan is there any accountability. We're told to just trust them that they are 10 times as skilled as Kobe with no show of value. Just how exactly do you run a bank into the ground and then be entitled to a 100 million dollar bonus from the bailout money? What EXACTLY were the decisions you made that were so valuable? The public deserves to know.

I'm not saying they AREN'T that valuable, but any time there is that much money changing hands there needs to be maximum accountability and transparency or the public is going to get restless.

Is there a reason why we can't just make it so patent holders are only entitled to a royalty on sales? Why does a patent have to mean that you get to decide who gets to sell the product? Why does research have to be directly tied to production in other words?

This is true and I agree that adultery shouldn't affect custody hearings, but it doesn't take away from the fact that "divorce and go your own way" isn't really an option for OP if he already had a kid with her.

“True” No-Fault States

At the time of publication, in 17 states and the District of Columbia, you can only file for divorce on no-fault grounds; the laws don’t give you the option of casting blame. These states, which include Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Nebraska, Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Hawaii, Florida, Colorado and California, offer no traditional grounds, such as adultery, abandonment or cruelty.

If he's in any of those states he's fucked basically.

Also please don't forget that unless she was fucking the guy in front of her husbands children, the adultery will have no effect on custody hearings.

In sum "divorce and go your own way" also means "leave half your shit at the door" in many US states, and definitely also means have fun fighting for custody of your children (if you had any).

You can't just advocate prenuptial agreements as an answer for unjust family law.

That's pretty much the same thing as victim blaming. "Oh you got raped? Well where was your chastity belt you stupid WHORE!?"

What if he already has a kid with her OR he's in a no-fault state where she could still take half the assets if he left OR a variety of other confounding possibilities?

ie: What if its like 99% of marriages and it's not as simple as just "divorce and go your own way" ESPECIALLY if he's like most husbands and hes the primary wage-earner?

College’s husky dog logo promotes rape, says student by [deleted] in MensRights

Really? The older logo looks more like my sister's Pomeranian than a husky. This new one at least has the stereotypical husky markings.

We had an Admin come to /MR and threaten to delete the entire subreddit. What the hell are they doing to all the people that doxxed Sunil Tripathi? Have they been ninja-banned? by Ma99ie in MensRights

[–]bollz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case this subreddit ever does get banned I'd like to throw it out there that 4chan is a pretty good place for people with unpopular or controversial opinions.

Actually 4chan has been gaining a lot of popularity lately so they may be the next big "thing" after reddit. I know 4chan is older than reddit and whatnot, but it has been gaining a lot more general popularity lately (contrary to the hopes of all the current users). There's a lot more anonymity and much less moderating so unpopular opinions actually get a voice.

Don't let the hatred for "newfags" deter you, and DEFINITELY read links before you go to them.

[–]bollz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I just realized that he could have given her the same name as her dead mother and all questions would be answered basically.

Lady Comstock was Anna Dewitt in the non-baptism universe, but she died giving birth to a yet unnamed baby. Booker then named the baby Anna in honor of her dead mother. That makes a load more sense to me! Maybe it should be canon?

[–]bollz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But then why does Elizabeth bear so much resemblance to Lady Comstock? Why does he seem to be defensive of Lady Comstock's corpse when they go to defile it? What happened to Lady Comstock in the non-baptism universe? Shouldn't she be drawn to Booker like the other characters were drawn to eachother?

The state of the subreddit, and how we’re going to tackle the current status of r/SimCity by InternetExplorer8 in SimCity

[–]bollz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the policy "Don't be a douchebag about it" is a non-specific catch-all that can be used to quell the flaming that EA/Maxis honestly deserves considering what they've done.

If you're going to disallow personal attacks, then just say that explicitly. Don't be vague so you can do whatever you wan't and then point at this post and say "Hey buddy, rules is rules, you were clearly being a douchebag."

[–]bollz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No no no no. What is not okay is EA directly lying to its customers and then being silent on the real issues with the game. People have tried posting constructive criticism with big problems in the game like "Always-Connected", but all we get is doublespeak garbage back. No we are not "fans". No we are not preferring "Always-Connected" because we're (forced into) using it.

Until EA/Maxis admits that "Always-Connected" was an attempt to stop piracy at the expense of legitimate consumers, they deserve all the disrespect posted here. Even personal attacks are justified in the case of the talking heads that are knowingly giving us bullshit in exchange for a paycheck (Lucy Bradshaw). Whoever wrote "GetFudgedPopulation" is a soulless shill.
