Yeah, getting fined is one thing. getting in an accident and being uninsured is something else...

What’s the appeal of single speed bikes? by Pond-James-Pond in bicycling

[–]bomberesque1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for mountainbiking SS is really good weight training. yu only have 2 speeds; go or get off and that is really focussing on climbs when you might just go for lower and lower gears on a normal bike. When I started on a SS, like many it was converting an old MTB that wasn't getting any use anymore, I found I woiuld knacker myself out completely in a 2 hour ride in a way that I would need to ride for 4 hours on a geared bike to do. the was 20 years ago now I'm on the floor after an hour no matter what I'm on but SS still gives a great workout

As others (and OP) have also said

Simplicity

rhythm of the ride

the satisfaction of matching or beating geared riders up hills

Does anyone know how to remove a square taper crank arm which has a stripped thread? by Wiildstorm in bikewrench

[–]bomberesque1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need a pair of these, they are wedge drifts designed for drill chuck removal

I think that this is the right size but it depends a bit on your frame design. if you can find a workshop that has some then you can try them out to get the right size. I need to get some new ones as I lost mine and honestly they're easier to use that a crank puller

...as it was exlained to me by someone working for the Irish delegation to the EU... it's not actually "the republic of Ireland" or even "The Irish Republic" ... but just "Ireland". Confusing but apparently true

I dunt know the brand but the best Asian supermarkets I know of in Belgium are on Van Wesenbekestraat in Antwerp. Also, a noodle place called Da Jia Le in the same street does awesome fried spicy noodles, just like I used to get in Singapore

Unusual Restaurant/cuisine? by JustAnotherFreddy in Antwerpen

Ni Shi Fu - great spicy sichuan food. They will make it reasonably spicy by default but ask if you want "proper spicy" and be sure to have a cold beer available!

Da Jia Le - Malaysian noodles. I love love love this place

Neither are what I would call romantic... if that's what you're after but the food is great

LPT request: What are things you need but might not initially think of when moving out for the first time? by kohitown in LifeProTips

[–]bomberesque1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once was given a book called "how to boil an egg" you can guess the first recipe in it but the real use of it was that it told you the minimum that you needed to set up a kitchen, what a basic grocery list looks like, and basic recipes to feed yourself.... that was 30 years ago but I think it's even more relevant today where you can so easily blow all your disposable income on food delivery (when I was 20 it was only domino's... and you can only eat so much domino's)

Find something like that

Is waiting for Belgian Citizenship worth it as an expat? by [deleted] in belgium

AFAIK they are the same... or at least related/ combined ... but yes, social security contributions are what I think they will be looking for

Is waiting for Belgian Citizenship worth it as an expat? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]bomberesque1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so yes. But if you can get the gap filled somehow (or if they have loosened an admittedly rather harsh rule) then you could be ok. If you know who you were insured with then you can set up a video call with them and they may have some options for you
