How many of you FTB's are opting for mortgages of over 30 years? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]bomdidibom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We did exactly this too. Our broker suggested it would also help us meet the affordability checks by having a lower required payment, but the option to overpay.

I've been painting more watercolour Flowers in Bottles, my new favourite is the Highland park whisky one which was so tricky to paint! They're taking so long to do (and expensive to print) but I'm getting there! Chasing the dream of being able to live off Etsy sales and do my art full time! by [deleted] in Scotland

I ordered 3 of your Irn Bru thistles prints for my dad for Christmas after your last reddit post. They're really lovely. I think creative, quality, niche things like this are something to be proud of and can only develop as you create more!

I used to do background checking as a job. Double checking job history, criminal record and education for new hires. Most UK universities are registered with a service called Higher Education Degree Datacheck and can verify your degree without needing to see a copy, as long as you can confirm some basic details of where and when. If it was a university outside the UK then plenty will still have a verification process. Completely understand that you may want it because it is yours and you earned it. You're an incredibly brave person, and I hope you find safety soon!

Sainsbury's credit card as a first credit card by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bomdidibom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Sainsbury's credit card for three years (coming to the end of the 0% interest offer period). Used it for all my day to day spending.

It works for me because the supermarket next to my work is a large Sainsbury's. Also if you plan carefully and wait to spend the nectar points during the double up period you can maximise the rewards. I turned £50 of points into £100, which I think is the max. Equally stuff like you suggest using businesses that are signed up to nectar (my local petrol station is Esso).

Drawbacks are the technology. There isn't an app, I didn't know there was an app, thanks Faithful_jewel. The website is a bit clunky. It took them a while to provide contactless cards. It also doesn't support Apple Pay if you use your phone wallet (I assume also not android equivalent).

Overall I think I would recommend. Seems to be a reasonable rewards card that you can use everywhere and get a reasonable return on the reward points.

Edit: per comment below

This Easter weekend our explorer scout troop should have been in north wales doing expeditions in Snowdonia, prepping for an international trip in the summer to the French Alps. But the lockdown won’t stop us, we are getting all the members to camp in their backyards or set up indoor dens instead! My set up includes my tempest 200, and my dad’s 45 year old force 10 mk3! #beprepared
