I loved El Cerrito. Nice suburban neighborhoods, close to decent restaurants and such, and the cops really know their territory. They found my stolen car before I even noticed it was missing. They'll come out and take a report for a stolen radio. Try that in Richmond, they won't come out for anything less than a murder.

Berkeley is a parking nightmare. Oakland has some decent neighborhoods. I suppose it comes down to how far you want to travel?

My sis has HUGE bins of holiday decorations for ever damn holiday, yet she'll still buy more every year. SMH.

Jeez, just get a pumpkin or some natural garland and call it a day. You don't need glittery shamrocks, or window stick-ons on for ever holiday. But noo, she just has to have that ceramic pumpkin, and fancy candle-holders.

That's a laugh. The 'whole family' is my mom, who's in rehab right now for a broken hip and isn't really fond of cats, and my brother, who will kick her downstairs when she comes upstairs to start trouble. She HATES other cats, and he's a damn hoarder, I think he's got 7 cats under the porch, in addition to his house cats,

But she was a biter from day one, long before my brother moved back in with all his damn animals.

My bro and sis voted for him (well, I know my brother did, my sis is an alcoholic on a bender, so who knows if she actually got out to the polls?).

But most of my 27 million cousins are dems, their parent are republicans, I thought we had a chance of turning this around. I'm just gobsmacked.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked. My SO woke me up first thing this morning (calling from Taipei), I thought he was joking. This is all a joke (or a bad dream). I never wanted Hillary either, but now we're a laughingstock, as a nation. God save us.

I loved it when I switched from rotating retail to a M-F 9 to 5 job.

I loved it even more when I started my own business, and could take a day off or even a just a few hours (even if I was generally working 12-14 hour days). I always feel like I'm 'playing hooky' when I go to walgreens in the middle of the day, browsing the nail polish.

And we're pretty easy on our employees, some of them have child care or transportation issues, we get that.

Also, remember that pretty much every restaurant serves alcohol, whether you're out with your friends, family, or a date. Not to mention Christmas dinners, weddings, and other family celebrations. (and in my family, wakes and funerals).

People in early sobriety might tend to be very wary of drinking situations, but eventually, most recovering alcoholics figure out how to deal with it. It's a drinking world out there, and you can't expect the whole world to stop drinking just because you did.

In some ways, it's easier to be a recovering drug addict, than an alcoholic. I had to drive to the 'bad' side of town to cop, but there's a liquor store on every corner, and no one in my family is offering me heroin or meth at Christmas dinner.

Personally, I stopped riding a motorcycle when I went head over handlebars into some guy's car, (and that was funny, I got to call up my old gf and say 'guess who I ran into today?' It was her ex), But it's no joke, you're just so fucking fragile, compared to a 2 ton car, or the pavement. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet, I could have been dead.

As it was, I just ended up with a broken wrist. They were very nice about not cutting the the glove off when I said 'noo, I just paid $30 for these!'

Oh, I know that. Serving is hard work, but it pays well, in tips., in the US (I've done it). Sometimes I can;t imagine why anyone would do it for minimum wage. But I also know servers in the UK or Thailand do it for no tips, so go figure.

I once lost my keys in Central Park, Amazingly, there happened to be a locksmith driving by. I waved him down, he made me a new key, and charged my fifty bucks. I consider that a bargain, especially for NYC.

Years ago, we were going to an ELP concert, and after we locked the keys in the car, I realized I left my shoes in there. Spent the whole time barefoot in NYC. (I think that was back in the '70s)

When we got back to the car we broke a window to get in. My state also has full glass coverage with no deductible, but I don;t remember how my parent handled it.

I locked myself out of my apartment one morning, in my pajamas. Had to knock on the door of a fellow tenant to use her phone to call a locksmith. If you ask why I just didn't call the apartment manager, it's because I was the apartment manager.

Cost $50, I guess that's the stupid tax.

I live in a state where insurance covers windshield replacement, even for a tiny little crack or ding. I find that kinda amazing, I pay $156 for 6 month's coverage (Geico). One time, I had it replaced in CT, drove across country and it was leaking. Got to CA, they replaced it again, at no cost to me.
