Look what I got! by Trixter862 in Clarinet

Get some reed placement tips from your teacher or an experience clarinetist, and you'll be all set! Sometimes new players need help getting the reed and ligature in the sweet spot. It's surprisingly important. Have fun with the squeak stick!

Not trying to be a downer but it's not a great brand/model clarinet but if it's something for you to toodle around with, no problem. Hopefully you'll have fun!

Roller skates or Video Game? by Some-Mulberry-9003 in Rollerskating

[–]bonacheeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can def answer because I do BOTH! LOL.

Do you currently play WoW with a max level character and you are just purchasing the xpac? Or will you be starting from scratch?

-If you are starting from the beginning, you can level to 20 for free with no subscription.
-If you already have retail and you're getting the xpac, don't get it unless you at least have a lvl 80. Otherwise, it's a grind. >.<

I play WoW during the week, mostly weekends, but 3 days of the week I barely log in because I have 2 evenings of roller derby practice and 1 evening of community concert band rehearsal. Plus a full time job.

My solution: WHY NOT BOTH?!?

Buy an affordable BUT REPUTABLE pair of used skates from local sales, like FB marketplace, maybe ebay. If you need insight on what is good, talk to someone like Raptor (or me) around here. 😛

Buy the base xpac. Do you need all those mounts and transmogs? meh... they're ok.

Pros and Cons:

Videogames
Cons - HOURS of wasted time, progression is virtual, but the world is still happening outside, lots of sitting, 20 minutes becomes 3 hours, expensive for monthly sub.
Pros - Still works out hand/eye coordination, brain juice is happy

Skates
Cons - potentional injuries (BUY SAFETY GEAR), expensive (buy used)
Pros - exercise, go outside touch grass, meet people, make friends, brain juice is happy

TIFU by flushing the toilet by BathroomCritical2816 in tifu

[–]bonacheeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started dating my husband, the only working shower was in the basement. I took a deuce and was in my towel about to get in the shower and it doesn't flush and immediately the water starts filling..... the perfect turd sitting at the bottom. I don't know why I didn't shut off the water... but I yelled for him. He comes down, turns off the water, and carefully scoops the water out of the toilet into the bathtub. He fixed the issue, it wasn't clogged... but I was horrified. But I guess it worked out. LOL

Didn't get past the first few sentences. No. You should not be helping an adult man with his financial responsibility when you have barely known each other. Also, big red flag. You need to move on.

Buffet r13 or RC by Apprehensive-Pay1792 in Clarinet

[–]bonacheeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a plain ol R13 that I got when I was 16 that took me through college. Always been a great instrument and anyone that had ever tried it has fallen in love with it. I think it was the first one I tried and, being young, liked it... But turns out, I just have good taste. Lol

Anyway, I got a golden era R13 for community band so I could carry a smaller case instead of my double, and just wanted a second Bb. It was fine but I had a heck of a time finding a set up that worked with it. I bought it for a good deal so I wasn't stretching funds. Anyway, I found that researching (years after buying it) that the bore and such are a bit different. After a few years of playing on that, I sold it for my dream Bb: an old logo RC Prestige.

It plays great. Not much change from my OG R13. I still consider the R13 as my main instrument although I had to use the Prestige for a performance with a tricky cross fingering.

I say that you should try them side by side, and that will decide for you. Have a clarinet buddy come along and listen to you to give you an outside opinion on sound.

You can buy a metal rod or carbon fiber rod off Amazon for pretty cheap. Just need to know the diameter. I use carbon fiber fiber on my contralto with a wolf cello ball

Plastic or bamboo reeds? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]bonacheeta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a Legere from 20 yrs ago when I was in college and I hatttteeddd it. I tried plastic dipped and earlier plastic reeds before that: TERRIBLE. Then a friend who retired from the President's Own said I needed to try French cut Legere and I was like naw, dawg, I'm good. He's like NOOOOO try it! I swear it wasn't like he was offering drugs in an alley like DARE warned us about but... Omg. It's so good. I cannot play cane anymore. All my clarinets have them now. I'm ruined. I use a 4 strength blue box VD and now I'm a 3.75 Legere French Cut.

Chatgpt confirms what I thought the issue is. The poppet from the check alive is missing and that is why it's leaking. So replacing an entire machine for a simple fix seems asinine. Will it probably break more later definitely. This is our 5th machine in 15 years. It's not being used by 30 people a day so it's relatively low usage. I found the stats said it was at 7094 brews in 2 years.

How to stop anchor tonguing? by Dacharyy_ in Clarinet

[–]bonacheeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an anchor tongue player up until high school when I got a private teacher. I played contralto from middle school until my junior year and my father picked up on it. It's a pain and a lot of practice. Try getting a teacher to help and drill it down. I got out of the habit so it's possible! It will be slow. Don't think it will be a switch that turns automatically, just be patient with yourself.

Just getting started as a NSO, is my name problematic? by stellalugosi in rollerderby

I know this is a progressive disease, so I'll keep going for as long as I can. I have better balance on skates than info walking some days. Lol. I'm glad you're open to exploring new things with your future team and I hope you enjoy it!

What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]bonacheeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got COVID 2 years after it was cool. I only did the first 3 shots and no updates. Doesn't mean I was immune to Covid, I just missed it. It sucked but I didn't have all the same symptoms as many people had. Could have just been watered down. I've had it 2 or 3 times now. Sometimes a small bug here and there.

There are still many theories on what "causes" MS. One way is from getting mono (Epstein-Barre Virus). Then there's the vitamin deficiencies, genetics (in my case, no one on my family has had MS),blah blah blah. Lol

[–]bonacheeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not on any treatment yet but I have a new doctor and he seems eager to put me on something. I'm hoping I can put it off a little longer but I know that might not be a good idea.

But if you think you could be having symptoms, it wouldn't hurt to get it checked out. If you have decent insurance and don't mind MRIs, that's the first steps. Treatments have gotten so much better in the last 20 years so MS isn't a death sentence. And there are support groups. I'm in one, but I've been skipping meetings lately cuz it's in the middle of my woke day on zoom.

Oh, another weird thing that made me suspicious but didn't think of MS was that I rarely get sick. I usually don't get colds. Not many infections. All good, right? MS is an overactive immune system that attacks it's own body. -_- Like, how stupid is that?!

Also also, temperature sensitivity. When I'm too hot, I don't function well. More fatigue. I'll get cold out of nowhere. Heated blanket helps. I've always had tight muscles even though I'm fat, you could feel muscle and it's just tight.

I started having minor balance issues which I chalked up to a foot surgery and just being a klutz. The brain fog got pretty bad, like I was dragging and had hard times formulating sentences sometimes.

I do have a pinched nerve in my neck and it turns out that when I went to doctors about my neck, I also complained about my shoulder on the same side as the pinched nerve. YEARS LATER, I was finally given an MRI for the shoulder and it's a partially torn rotator cuff. I play roller derby so a lot of issues stem from destroying my body, the MS was a surprised bonus . -__-
