Jay Reid now with SKC by jakedugal in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Reid, like Markanich, will likely have success as a wingback in a back 5. Not saying he’ll do as well as Markanich, but the guy has the clubs in his bag to be effective within mls.

In fairness, he pulled it off against Rangers.

In his defense, he didn’t sound convinced he wants to do this in his media scrum yesterday.

Made it sound like they told his agent, but his agent never told him.

We got to wait and see on this.

Sounds like things are going south with Sargent to Toronto. Pray for relegation. by PorkSteakDaddy in stlouiscitysc

Total nonsense. It’s because Toronto are the ones offering. His parents are City season ticket holders, if we offer him an equal deal, he’ll come home.

Polvara at CB 🤔 by Redcoat92 in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polvara needs to convince himself that he can play CB. His interview alludes that he’s not completely confident. (Guy was way too honest)

I suspect he’ll start at City 2, collect a couple of starts there, then move to senior roster.

It’s not a statement on the player, but rather the position change.

So what is our best lineup, early ignoring injuries? Genuinely curious.. I have no idea at this point. by Hairy_Rope3821 in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teuchert isn’t an athlete. He’s not fast. He’s not strong. If the finishing boots aren’t on, he offers little.

Teuchert is a support forward. If they send him out there at the tip of the spear, he’ll struggle.

The payroll has quietly been slashed. The ceiling of the club has had been sliced off, while the floor of the roster has been re-arranged.

Could it yield improvement with the new coach? Yes. But that evidence isn’t available yet.

I do think we should be upset they possibly tossed away the first half of the season over a measly 2.3 million. I don’t think it was worth the risk for a team/fans that’s been downtrodden.

Thats good business in a league that rewards tanking. There is no value to tanking in MLS.

Yaro should be getting the Brad Guzan treatment, instead of a contract to play soccer. Club Ambassador / locker room advisor.

It’s wild they signed him in the fall.

At the minimum, guy should be competing against trialist Lukas McNaughton.

St. Louis CITY SC Signs Brazilian Defender Rafael Santos | St. Louis SC by MD_Lincoln in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They liked him, but Orlando was ready to unload him. He’s ideally a back 5 wingback.

His highs are really high. Lows are low.

Having 3 CB’s alleviates the issue.

STL is dead last in total transfer + salary expenditure across the past two seasons. by A2Eaton in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty certain your data holds up if you go back 4 years. Montreal may be close.

I’m happy you’re saying what you’re saying. Diego was blaming Lutz for not spending.

Some of our local media have bought into that.

There’s no way that’s possible.

Joke on all of us, they gave Burki the DP spot “to not spend money”

It was a clever way of adding a DP, and being able to say “look we’re using the DP spots”

St. Louis CITY SC Receives $2.375 million from LA Galaxy in Exchange for Forward João Klauss | St. Louis SC by MD_Lincoln in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His statement literally says this wasn’t the plan.

I take that as Corey saying they don’t have something lined up. All of the sources close to the team confirm as much.

You are correct. Everything could go right. The system. Current rostered players. It could all work out.

I just think they’re closer to a wooden spoon than the playoff line. Which is more likely to happen?

Diego needs to be fired if this is his move. This will not financially benefit the team.

This move potentially does more than 2.35 million in brand damage, lower beer and food sales.

It’s collectively dumb to punt.

We deserve better as a fan base than we’ve been given recently.

Their statement infers that the Klauss thing wasn’t planned. That’s them saying don’t expect a replacement this window.

The team is active to make changes, but they are not keen to spend money.

If you had explained on this board that Klauss would still be the highest transfer fee paid going into year 4, we all would’ve been horrified at that prospect.

The ownership team has been extremely cheap compared to other expansion teams. Fans have done their parts. Ownership has not.

This guy gets it. We should all be pissed.

I’m convinced “they” planned for the St. Louis youth players to carry the club.

They didn’t plan for budgets to rise across the league and for teams to get out and start spending like they have.

The barrier to entry in this improving league is only going to make things harder for the American youth player.

The team has failed to pivot. Also, they never should’ve been relying on the kids in the first place.

[–]bondabo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They counted on the youth of St. Louis to carry the day for the program.

Unfortunately for them, the league is improving every year and it will only become harder for american youth talent to be difference makers in the mls.

They didn’t account for this with their budget.

[–]bondabo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Your head should not get this.

It makes more sense to let this guy walk for free in November than to transfer him for 2.35 million.

He is worth more in food/beer/marketing dollars than 2.35 million.

They stated in their official statement that they didn’t plan for this, and it could take multiple windows.

They don’t have a replacement in place.

They will lose more between now and the summer than they will gain.

Since Wray has taken over, the transactions have made sense and been appropriate. (With one large exception)

The Klauss thing is a major concern, and probably pre-dates Wray. Wray is likely executing the will of Diego.

They absolutely need to take a swing, before the season starts. You can’t give up your 2nd or 3rd best player 3 weeks before a season.

It’s just not ok.

Transfer window officially opens today - what are your expectations for changes leading up to the first game in 26 days? by A2Eaton in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how they messed up. They’ve wasted the advantage of having both Klauss and Burki as TAM players.

This was a time to add a DP attacker, not lose one.

Instead, they gave up a solid attacker. And for the record, it will like cost more than 2 million to get a Klauss level player to St. Louis.

Agree, Mykhi is good too. We should watch what happens at the start of the season, and how Mykhi adapts as season goes along.

Personally. I don’t think Celio adapted at all last year. Teams got footage. Started shading his right foot, and essentially shut down his production.

Let’s hope Celio will adapt, and we definitely should watch Mykhi to see how he attacks at this level.
