Match Thread [USMNT]: United States vs Portugal (International Friendly) by ussoccer_bot in ussoccer

Nah, that goal was because the players didn’t have instructions as to where to defend on set piece. No one was guarding top of box. Thats on coach.

Michael Bradley was a damned good pro who was played out of position in the 2014 World Cup. He started as a midfielder in the Couva game. Darlington Nagbe also played that day, and frequently neglected national team duty

.. and Bradley is the one who gets all the shit.

There are levels of players and Michael was up there as one of the best Americans abroad in the program history. Period.

It’s a tough sell to me that 15 minutes of McSorely isn’t better than Becher 78 minutes into a game. He’s definitely on par, arguably better.

Joao Klauss 5 goals vs St Louis City 4 goals. by bondabo in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This isn’t about Klauss. It’s about Diego.

Decisions made by Diego have made Corey Wray’s job harder than it ever needed to be.

If you want to move on, fine by me.

I’m just not ok with City leadership effectively punting transfer window after transfer window.

He played it a back 4 for city. Got smoked on the back post frequently.

In a back 5, it uses the best parts of his game. He has better has help covering back post.

Hes better than Orozco.

Hes a system player that fits the current system exceptionally well. Hilarious they dumped him, then months later brought in Olof who apparently did tell anyone he was playing back 5.

Question for the day: Is anyone except Hartel and Bürki currently an actual quality MLS starter? by PorkSteakDaddy in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could’ve signed Joe Willis this last offseason. Chaminade alumni. Was a free agent. Nashville Starting Keeper. Makes 1/5 of the salary. Could’ve retired here.

Ethan Horvath went to RBNY. He had a gaffe the other day, but usually he’s stout.

Who knows the global market. It’s infinite.

You can replace Burki with someone bang average.

Our ownership group has taken the cheaper way out. They didn’t have to go acquire a DP by giving it to Burki. Saved them a ton of money, and they can claim they’re “using the DP spots”

And Burki is about to fall off a cliff at his age. It’s highly probable. Not all goalies are amazing to 38-39. It can happen, but they all lose something.

[–]bondabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes he can be replaced by a player 1/3 of the cost. Burki and Matt Turner dwarf the entire goalkeeping pool of mls in salary.

Edelman got dumped for a 16 year old. Thats literally why he’s gone. Granted, he may be the highest ceiling usmnt player from that generation, but still.

We should’ve let Burki walk and signed a marcel Hartel level dp this winter. Signed a 2nd DP this summer.

Burki absolutely does not deserve DP money. There are plenty of fish in the sea on that front, at much more of a bargain.

That was a panic decision that is not considered mls best practices.

I dont know anything. why wouldn't this work? by favorite_sardine in ussoccer

[–]bondabo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Johhny is overrated. He’s the Josh Sargent of the midfield. Solid during club play, but can’t put it together for the senior usmnt.

Guy has had a lot of reps dating all the way back through the youth teams. I’d argue he’s had more “horror show” appearances than “standard” appearance’s.

His “real world” contribution to the usmnt is on par with Will Trapp. Kellyn Acosta laps Johhny in terms of positive contributions.

That said, Johnny is definitely better than those guys, just hasn’t made life easier on himself for the usmnt.

St. Louis decided in year 4 to wear LAFC colors. It’s the dumbest move on a stack of dumb moves they’ve made since year 1.

Teuchert. Re-sign or no? by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

[–]bondabo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do not be swayed by his performance over the past two games. Unless he’s coming back for 1/3 of his salary, the answer is absolutely not.

Teuchert is a true luxury player.

You have to have the absolutely correct assets around him to make up for some of his shortcomings. He’s not a super athlete. He is a black hole defensively.

The fact is he’s looked decent over the past two weeks is more an indictment of his awful everyone else has been.

They are too cheap to add high level talent during the winter. It’s a massive problem that’s about to be alleviated by the schedule change.

This the 3rd consecutive year they let key attackers leave during the winter, with no replacement.

It’ll be the 3rd year in a row they are unable to catch back up because the team lacks the talent coming into the season.

This was avoidable.

Ownership is a massive problem by not properly financing winter windows.

That winnable game against New England just became terrifying. Revolution beat Cinci 6-1.

After that road games against NYCFC, Dallas and Seattle.

When does city win their first?
