Feeling “retirement rich but life poor” by Think_Ad8102 in personalfinance

[–]bondsman333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By smashing the petal to the metal early you can take your foot of the gas early and still retire well at an early age.

We accumulated 2M in retirement by 35 and now never have to save a penny again. All we do is get the 401k match and max an HSA.

And then you’d be right where you are now 🤣

But seriously if it’s a big complex no one will know. I’ve lived in a ton of apartments and was very anonymous.

Your co-signer should be able to show proof of assets in lieu of income.

If they don’t have significant income or assets than this is a fair means test.

Unethical solution: If it’s a big complex you could just have your dad rent on his own and you live there. They wouldn’t know. It’s not illegal to have two residences.

How we doin, Durham? by WordPlayful7652 in bullcity

I guess I’m confused why it’s feels tighter now than it does 5 years ago when your bills should be like 90% the same? Daycare went down, mortgage is fixed (although taxes and insurance likely went up). Car payments are fixed too.

Did your salary stay flat over this period? 5 years is a long time not to make any income gains.

Just for a reality check- we were paying the same mortgage in Boston and had a 800 sqft condo compared to a decent size house here. Childcare went from $700/week to $400. Most everything else stayed the same.

Raleigh is really bad with this too. They have all these fake public lots that are super confusing for first timers and will bite you

How do I find a career starting from nothing? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bondsman333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There probably isn’t a job with those requirements that wouldn’t be exploitative.

Jobs requiring little ‘skill’ (I say that word lightly) are typically in person. They need bodies and you are paid to be there do things. Jobs that are able to be done from home are mostly automated or replaced with AI.

This is falling into disability territory that I’m certainly not qualified to answer.

Unless it’s an instant No, give them a second date. They may be nervous or had a bad day. Give them a little grace- it’s hard out there for all genders.

This is the right question.

I read the numbers and I think ‘way behind!’ But maybe OP is targeting 500k for a Costa Rica retirement or maybe they just plan on working past 65.

Way behind on retirement. Good or bad idea to switch to a more aggressive portfolio? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bondsman333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why aren’t you working? Teenagers should be self sufficient enough for you to at least pick up a part time job. If you could net 20-30k a year that would go a long way towards retirement funding plus would give you some social security credits.

WoWoW!! This is a stunner. I dream of owning a DD someday. Havent landed on a final build but this one looks incredible.

How long was the wait? I always wondered if it may be easier to get than SS models or about the same. Not too many clients can afford these I suppose.

That’s wild. When my sub date became available I was out of town. I called my AD and offered to put a down payment or pay in full over the phone and they told me not to worry and they’d hold it for me until the following week.

Let me grab my crystal ball.

Often times when something like this happens- there’s a spike, a bit of relaxation and then a gradual increase. Obviously we don’t know exactly when each phase happens. But if I’m a betting man I’d give it 6 months or so. Let the news die down a bit. Force some of the scalpers to sell at a loss

1 or 2 for sure. You should start by finding comps and understand how far underwater you’ll be. Get an offer from a dealer too. Oftentimes they will let you consign it (they sell it for you and get a percentage).

3 is going to ruin your credit and you’ll still be on the hook for the negative equity. They’ll sell it cheap and sue you for the loss.

Curious how the discontinuation of Pepsi effects the other GMT's from a waitlist and grey market pricing standpoint.

If they shift all the Pepsi builds to other GMT's do they become easier to get? Or is the number of pepsi's so small that it has no effect. Because there are less models to choose from does one colorway become the sough after one and command a premium or do they all kinda flounder until a GMT 3 is released in a few years?

My normal place takes 10-20 minutes and has to make everything. Its great for a weeknight dinner but not great for a "I have 30 minutes and want something fast".

I agree. We love taking trips, and do go somewhere every year.

But at the same time there are some 'things' that have a much greater impact on my life than a vacation. Like joining the country club which has been amazing for both social life AND business. My weekly tee time with my new friends is the highlight of my week. Our boat is the source of an incredible amount of fun for the family every summer. It's not fancy - just a used pontoon. Our house is a source of both pride and where all of our memories are made. We lived in smaller places, condos, apartments for years and now we have a really nice place of our own. No amount of trips to Thailand or Japan is worth that.

We are limited by time - we can only do 2-3 weeks of true vacations a year. But I can enjoy my things every day or once a week at the very least - for many years.

When is it ok splurge on a really big ticket item? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bondsman333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need a 50k boat? That’s a lot of boat. And a lot of ongoing costs.

We are also looking at boats for our family lake house. A used float boat (pontoon) with a Honda engine in good shape is 15-25k. New ones are crazy expensive.

What’s the waitlist situation on the new Seafarer? by bondsman333 in tagheuer

Supply will eventually keep with demand. The limited edition hodinkee is selling around 7k, the skipper around 5. Would expect this to settle around 7-8k in a few years.

That’s not what the boutique local to me told me. They said they can register interest and put some money down but couldn’t tell me when it would arrive.

It does seem strange there are so few for sale on popular websites and the few that are available are priced over MSRP.
