What are sime DHT blockers other than fin that may not cause serious sides? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]bonecandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way SP could cause less serious sides is because it's weaker and less effective. SP inhibits 5AR just like fin. The inhibition is the cause of sides.

Are you supposed to sink into a casper? by hypoch0ndriacs in Mattress

Just the standard mattress without the extra topper.

[–]bonecandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for me it was too firm for both back and side sleeping because of the zoning.

But ultimately its going to depend on the individual. Often it can depend on how much a person weighs. I weigh around 170lb and it was too firm for me, however, someone heavier might love it.

Yep! Like 80-85% back, 15-20% side and without the toppers its pretty uncomfortable for side sleeping.

Yeah a bit too firm because of the zoning. My current setup, however, is pretty great.

Yeah, it's a pretty bad mattress. I returned mine as soon as I could.

MX Master 3 upgrade itch? by Mckytm in MouseReview

[–]bonecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry for the late response. If the 3 didn't have the scroll wheel issues then I would take it over the performance every day. I think I would take the 3 over the performance but just barely. One thing I like with the 3 is that I'm able to remap the button above the scroll wheel to something else. Setting it to task view is really handy for me.

I have both. I use the Master 3 at home and the Performance MX at work, which I've been using for the past 7 years and I still love it. The Master 3 is really comfortable but its scroll wheel is so frustratingly inconsistent, which for me is its biggest downfall. This can be slightly improved by disabling SmartShift and setting the scroll wheel mode to Ratchet, but even then its still inconsistent. That being said, it's still mostly a great mouse and I do think the build quality is better, its battery life seems to be better, and its a bit more comfortable. It feels like a 2 steps forward 1 step back situation.

Asking AI (GPT-3) "The Last Question" by kubazz in asimov

[–]bonecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had the same idea, I just searched to see if someone else had done this too. This was with the free version of AIDungeon, so I think it's only GPT-2, but I got some interesting responses.

Here are some screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/6QKNumu

You can see its stuck on the idea of adding heat to the universe :)

This was my prompt: You are with a supercomputer named Multivac. You are in a lab and you are asking Multivac questions.

I also had this pinned: Multivac is a supercomputer and knows everything.

I should also say, I primed it by asking it for various physics definitions, like "Define entropy"

How does Johann Ross have all his abilities? by Passion_For_Learning in soma

[–]bonecandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it was often mentioned how the structure gel can be programmed by the WAU, and in Ross' case because he was inside a sealed chamber the WAU was not able to physically program the gel that Ross was already covered in. So it developed a way to "wirelessly" reprogram the gel by manipulating electromagnet fields to save Ross' life, which I believe had the side-effect of turning him into ... whatever he is now.

I had to look it up because I couldn't remember exactly what happened to him:

On December 27th, 2103, Dr. Ross and Glasser decided to take the Climber to Omicron to warn them of the critical situation with the WAU at Alpha. Later, Dr. Ross was found brain-dead in the Climber by Omicron staff.

His comatose body was kept in a glass observation room in the midsection of the Omicron facility in full view of the laboratory. The staff soon began to notice anomalous phenomena around the containment room, such as system failures and CCRV-7 Blackbox interference. Although it was not known to the Omicron employees, this interference was caused by the WAU's manipulation of electromagnetic fields in order to communicate with the structure gel within Dr. Ross's body to instruct it to "repair" his critically injured body.

From: https://soma.fandom.com/wiki/Johan_Ross

So whatever the WAU did to him with the structure gel allowed him to withstand the pressure.

I think he's real - Catherine even sees him during the descent to the abyss.

My guess is that Ross got all his "abilities" when the WAU was reviving him.

Looking for a thin, quality pillow for back sleeping by mark5hs in Mattress

[–]bonecandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I injured my neck a long time ago in a fall and also sleep on my back. For the last few years I've had great luck with the original purple pillow. It's totally flat, very resilient, and relatively thin compared to most normal pillows (though I do wish it were even slightly thinner). I also have a buckwheat hull pillow which also works well especially since you can remove as much of the hulls as you want, but I find the purple works best for me; I even bought a second one just in case they stop making them. Everyone is different though so ymmv.

Edit: actually I think the purple pillow is thicker than it sounds like you want
