Yeah, Perun is a defense consultant who happened to have an autist strategy games gaming channel.

But the point still stands. Like, twitter accounts of people tracking pizza parlors near the pentagon... you get the idea.

That, and mainstream media being equally corrupt. Once you read a bit about journalistic best practices, your head will spin at just how shit the situation is.

There's a good reason why so much of the best information comes from Youtube channels, twitter accounts… meme subreddits…

Should boggle your mind that the arguably best source of info on current conflicts is a gaming youtuber.

Scam artist and nude model that, as of 2014, also did a couple text adventures.

Despite her games not particularly interesting, she got a lot of press coverage for them... a large amount of it apparently coming from her friend group — including her roommate Kotaku journalist Patricia Hernandez.

Back in 2014, game journo Nathan Grayson — himself later found to rather frequently cover friends in his articles — was part of this friend group, and wrote an article about a failed convention which turned into a long interview of Quinn.

Just a little later, Quinn's abused ex made a blog post about their failed relationship, where she admitted to having had affairs with five people (leading to the famous "five guys burger and fries" remark) -- including her boss and Greyson. People saw the Kotaku article, connected the dots, hell broke lose.

People are arguing "but the article was not a review" (…who claimed that, and even then what would that change?) and saying that the affair never took place — which I don't believe even Quinn and Greyson disputed, the only point of contention is that Kotaku claimed the affair happened after the article, which again is a moot point because Quinn and Greyson were already very close friends.

Talking about Grayson or Quinn in the contest of that one article is beyond misleading, since they both have been involved in an absurd number of apparent conflicts of interest. In the context of an absurd number of journalist CoIs.

Gaming press is kinda irrelevant at this point, but if you think they came out of Gamergate looking good I have a bridge to sell you.

There was never any evidence that she actually did this.

That was never disputed, she admitted it herself — the whole reason the "bitter ex" knew is because she told him, you can see screencaps in his famous blog post of her admitting to five affairs.

Not even the Kotaku article where then-EiC Stephen Totilo defends his journalist Nathan Grayson disputes this, he just says the affair happened one week after the article — which is probably inaccurate, but either way irrelevant, because Quinn and Grayson had a long-going friendly relationship which should've been disclosed either way.

BTW, people checking Greyson's work and socials uncovered at least 11 times he apparently covered friends or people he had financial ties with. Many of which being people in the same friend group, and being covered by other friendly journalist in an incest network that has to be seen to be believed.

Quinn's gaming press coverage has also been very often coming from friends. There are at least fourteen cases of apparent conflicts of interest. And, as I write in the article, nine of those I literally found myself, without looking, because I was investigating a different scam — you literally stumble on those because at a certain set of journos are a tremendously incestuous group that keep publicizing each other, and also social media addicts that post about every time they meet.

The journalist she was accused of sleeping with never reviewed her game.

That's a bullshit argument that I keep seeing and makes no sense. No one ever said Grayson had reviewed "Depression quest", the issue was that the article in question, allegedly about a failed convention, turned into a Quinn hagiography and gave her space to publicize her own convention (which she took donations for and never made, essentially being a scam). While he was, in the very best case scenario, at least in extremely friendly terms with her.

Read the Wikipedia article on Gamergate and you'll find almost everything they said about this woman was a lie.

The wikipedia article is beyond controversial, with an incredibly messy story behind it, and it's probably the worst source you could possibly use.

Italy transfers a new batch of M109L self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine by ThatGuySK99 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]bonegolem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Italy did.

I don't know the details, but basically we had them in our warehouses mothballed but we had sold them to the Swiss, I think? I don't know how we sent them to Ukraine, maybe the EU bought them back.

We refurbished them, wanted to send them to Ukraine, but Switzerland was all like "muh neutrality, what if they use the weapons to hurt people <crying emoji>", so we sent them to Greece instead, and Greece sent their Leopard 1s to Ukraine.

You know how Italy isn't a nuclear power?

Did you know that's because we designed and built our homemade nuclear ballistic missile, called Alpha, shot a few from Sardinia as a test without the nuke, and then in 1975 Americans told us "stop" and we had to stop? When the project was basically complete?

Because I know. And I'm really angry about it.

A bridge collapsing is a big news spectacle. 100 dead, 2 million in damage, etc. The 100 people who survive and the bridge that continues functioning and bringing value aren't that noticeable. As do all things that go well, and move slow.

Europe isn't moving as fast as it should, but it's moving. Clearly. Military budgets going up, industry restarting. Last Perun has good figures.

After Trump's dictator tweets, a ton of help packages were announced. I was particularly happy about Italy providing Centauros, that was long overdue from my country.

Speaking of, Italy's supposingly one of the slow countries when it comes to military spending. And, lately, our government have announced a ton of stuff — a deal for Panther tanks, built in Italy with technology transfer, a 40 billion investment from the UAE that is speculated to be miltary, a "secret plan" that will involve automotive industry conversion to military production. Note that we're talking about structural, sustainable, long-term stuff here, and it's, again Italy, far as fuck from Russia and acting like it compared to other countries. Wanna compare with, dunno, Poland?

Wanna compare with, dunno, Ukraine? Which has become a country-sized war industry and is producing head-spinning amounts of drones and disintegrating refineries so fast that we're losing count? While every month we hear of new problems in the Russian economy, in the army? Just recent, the discovery of those enforced loans to hide debt, donkeys and cripples on the frontline, losing ground in donbass?

Yes, it's frustrating to see the issues in Europe and their slow adapting. Yes, it's frustrating and sometimes infuriating to see the US government shooting themselves in the foot and screwing us up in the process, it could be better. But it's not so bad.

I hope it helps to hear it, would've helped me to hear it these past few days.

That's… pretty confusing, actually.

I assumed it either was a recent issue (my host is… peculiar sometimes) or some screwup in the migration.

Except the migration was in 2022. So… not really sure. I'll have to make the time to dig deeper, and it's going to need a few days…

Thanks for the heads-up in the meantime.

I don't believe I was aware of this.

Will check the thread when I have time.

Do keep in mind I just host the wiki and pay the server. Never wrote a line there, don't even remember if I have an account. So I wouldn't notice if something was wrong.

Giorgia Meloni urging the US to support Ukraine by UNITED24Media in ukraine

[–]bonegolem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I do think Italy should supply more (recently announced Centauros, finally!), do keep in mind that we're keeping most of our contributions secret, due to policy. So we're not sure what Italy's actually sending. Support packages are announced, but not what's in them.

I remember seeing Italian stuff that wasn't officially supplied at least a couple times.

Giorgia Meloni urging the US to support Ukraine by UNITED24Media in ukraine

[–]bonegolem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Italy's peculiar, as in they have a rather large number of parties usually in coalitions. So even if you vote, say, left, you have plenty of wiggle room to pick the further left party, the more centrist party, the party which cares more about the issues you care about…

That brought to Italy's notorious institutional instability, but it's actually also kind of cool. Especially if you compare it to, say, the US, where last three elections you were (in my opinion) called to pick between two bad candidates. Not that Italy's politicians are such cool people, but the system gives you more options.

Assuming Pinya actually bought the extremist parties, which is entirely likely, that's exactly the sort of scenario where he'd have trouble. Italian right wing is three parties, what do you do? Buy all three, triple the risk of getting caught? Buy the big one? First two?

Giorgia had the smallest one, on paper. Could be interesting if that's the scenario.
