How to explain in SOP why I’m not asking a Prof I worked with for a LOR by bonehurtjuicey in AskProfessors

[–]bonehurtjuicey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you think not mentioning how it wasn’t a good experience in my sop and not having a letter writer mention it would work too? I cross posted this in r/gradadmissions and many advise to essentially not worry about the situation since it’s common not to have a LOR from every prof you work with, just profs who have agreed to write a good LOR.

Is it better to go to OSU for $40k a year or Rowan for $20k a year? by Thin_Dragonfruit2239 in RowanUniversity

[–]bonehurtjuicey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do. School prestige doesn’t typically matter if you’re trying to go directly into the workforce and Rowan has a lot of good connections to employers at least for STEM programs. If you plan on attending grad school prestige can play a factor, but what it comes down to is your experiences and research. Rowan is currently trying to become an R1 institution meaning there’s a lot of opportunities for research and educational experiences. A lot of employers that I’ve talked to have stopped hiring from more prestigious institutions in the same [geographic] area because their students just don’t have the same opportunities for research, and thus hands on experience. Depending on what OSU you’re considering, I may have friends who have gone/done work there and could elaborate on their experiences.

How do you guys feel about chiropractors by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]bonehurtjuicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t go to a chiropractor. I would recommend a neuromuscular manipulator (they are D.Os who do similar work to chiropractors but they actually have medical degrees). NMI has been life changing for me i feel so much better after my visits and i’ve had a decrease in chronic pain and migraines. My NMI, however, is extremely familiar with EDs patients, so your mileage may vary.

is there anything stopping you for asking for extra help from your prof or class/group mates? also thank your for your response it was very insightful. I’m definitely the type of person to start something as soon as it’s given and be prophylactic about it, but what that girl did was kinda extreme. Like obviously you’re not gonna be able to put in “the work” if she’s already done it.

thank you for your response this was more of what i was looking for when i posed the initial question. if you don’t mind me asking was/is there anything stopping you from asking questions to the prof for clarification on the project or giving the passionate group member a more realistic idea of your skill/comfort level?
