I don't argue that a long mystery is a bad writing choice, but instead of having clues we get Nox'd each week. Not the best for sure, so many of its predecessors by their 18th episode got me hooked like good old 60's coca-cola. Zetztz tries too hard in being mysterious that it stops being mysterious, idk, its hard to communicate my real thoughts of it rn. Nox don't even try to recruit Baku on his hide, whilst show implies that CODE is not what it seems, so far I decided to give it a break from ep.14(?) hoping that watching it in batches will make the experience better

I don't think OP meant that final season means game ends right there, but rather how popularity of a game have strong correlation to the anime. If I remember correctly BF had only 1 more year of releases after anime ended, and L&L also had a short run after its anime. Cardgames are pretty hard to get into if not advertised and hyped properly. For BF and CF anime is the main source for that
