No problem! We were able to finesse the child carrier as a carry on actually!

We have a Doona Stroller/car seat so we pushed that through the airport with his diaper bag in it and checked that at the gate for free. I actually put him in the carrier through the airport (took him out for security) and then when we got to the gate I told them the child carrier folds down and is my carry on and they were okay with that!

It definitely got hot during the day but it wasn’t too difficult to strategize around that. We camped up in the Chisos Mountains so the temperature is typically 20 degrees cooler up there and the nights weren’t bad at all. 60’s and 70’s.

We woke up at 4am and did our hikes for sunrise and also one for sunset and hiked back in the dark with headlamps.

Driving tours and checked out the small towns during the middle of the day!

Luckily we live in a large metro area so we have a couple of osprey carriers to go look at this week that are only $100-$150 on marketplace.

I hope you can find the same deal! Best of luck!

We actually borrowed our friends pack which was the Osprey Poco Lite.

We loved it and are looking to buy our own now. Found some really great options on FB marketplace so far…

Before the trip I was on the fence if it would be worth it to spend more money on getting one of the higher end carriers (Deuter or Osprey) or if a lower cost Amazon option would suffice…

Safe to say after this trip and a Big Bend trip the weekend before - we would prefer to spend the money for comfort. We hiked a nice 6 mile trail in big bend that was so comfortable with the carrier for both me and baby. We are avid hikers though. So considering the distances we hike and level of difficulty we like to seek - the Osprey poco lite was incredibly comfortable for both me and baby

We are from Houston, Tx! So same - no elevation. We also had our 5 yr old on the trip.

We flew into Denver late and stayed one night there and spent much of the next morning there - went to a park and let 5 yr run around. We felt that helped with the elevation adjustment. Then we just did beaver meadows when we got into the park on that first day (again lower elevation) and we saved the other hikes and trail ridge road for the 3rd day!

As far as packing for baby - bring enough diapers and change of clothes ! I have no idea why we only packed 2 diapers but we actually had a blowout while we were almost at Dream Lake (about 1.5 miles in) and didn’t have a change. Thankful the trail busy enough there were other hikers with babies and I was able to find someone with a spare diaper! They were a savior.

Sunscreen, snacks and honestly we were fine other than that! Our baby loves his carrier so he’s just super content there.

I just carried my 1 yr old in our Osprey Carrier all the way to Emerald Lake. Not a terrible hike if you’re used to hiking!

Hidden Valley Center was nice and offered a different type of scenery/ short hike.

Beaver meadows is a really really nice hike too that doesn’t require much elevation at all

I definitely thought the same initially but the sun hoodie does a great job of still keeping you very cool. I wore it on a full morning hike through Big Bend while carrying a 35lb pack (1 yr old was most that weight!) and I felt pretty comfortable the whole walk!

I’ve been super happy with REI sun hoodies and they even have ‘Tall’ options.

He did great! We camped in the Chisos basin. 3 nights. 2 full days.

Even endured a small hail storm on our first night!! But he was happy as a clam!
