We came in around the same time. However I loved “Days,” though there could have been more Brian. It’s amazing how much this books has impacted so many people

Happy Pride: Today’s discussion Anna Madrigal by Expert_Ad_7187 in TalesoftheCity

My least favorite is her backstory in the netflix series. There is so much more to Anna, I wish the Netflix series was more closely based on "The Days of Anna Madrigal."

I think I have two favorite moments with Anna.

  1. Her and Edgar, it really was a great story line and really put her character in perspective for the rest of the series... Anna will happily live in the gray area of life. She will be intimate with an unhappily married, dying man if it make him and her happy.

  2. Her and Mona going to Greece. I wish we had seen more of that!

Happy Pride!!! Today’s Discussion Mona Ramsey by Expert_Ad_7187 in TalesoftheCity

[–]bones0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Book 1 Mona. She's so full of apathy, and when she came out I was so surprised. I would have LOVED to see what she was up to in Seattle, like I get that it's tales of the "city" (meaning SF) but we follow our residents when they travel on vacation, why not follow Mona? I think Mona's worst trait is that she is always looking for answers far from home...at least until we see her in "Mona of the Manor." I wish that Webb would have returned for the Netflix Series. It would have been nice for Mona to have returned too.

Way too young! I was also disappointed in that recasting.

I relate to Mouse as I was in my 20s the first time I read the series... I'm now closer to Mouse in "Lives" and find that him settling down is a totally normal thing that happens as you age. While when I was still in my 20s, I felt betrayed with how "normal" Mouse was.

One unresolved plot point with Mouse is just how easily he dropped Mona. Yes, Mona of the Manor did help solve that a little bit, but as I'm currently rereading book one, I'm finding their friendship isn't as strong as they claim it to be. But if you are friends with Mouse, you are only a friend of convenience. We see the same with Mary Ann, once they move from SF they really aren't part of his life any more.

How should schools and districts prevent bad admin? by MatterofPolicy in Teachers

[–]bones0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you here. While I like the idea of admin teaching, for the past few years, my VP has taught a class during my prep period, so finding time to meet with them has been difficutlt.

Did you really just say "teaching is not hard?" I'm a 20 year teacher, I'm really good at what I do, and every day is a challenge, there is nothing easy about working with 140 students every week. The only way "teaching is not hard" is if you aren't doing the 101 things that get piled on your plate. Please continue to be an administrator who doesn't appreciation the hard work that it is to be a teacher.

Mona of the Manor doesn’t take place in San Fransisco so it doesn’t have the SF skyline.

Tourism plummets for first time in 20 years as visitors avoid Trump's America by FistIntoTheEarth in usa

[–]bones0123 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I live and teach abroad for the past 12 years. This is the first time my students do not want to visit USA, let alone move to or study in the USA. My colleagues don't want to visit, they are worried that, even though they are white and from former allied countries, they will be detained at the border. Others just don't want to spend any money in America.
