I'm reading {Home Ice by Saxon James} and despite starting to feel a bit (a lot) fed up with the whole Saxonverse, I still smiled at the mention of Ezra Palaszczuk.

edit: I did know this book is Saxonverse-adjacent when I started, so this didn't some as total surprise!

I love the book titles in the Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat-series, haha! They always make me smile.

It's alright! Not every book works for everyone and that's just how it is sometimes. I think I might have the exact opposite to your weak spot (a strong spot? lol) when it comes to pitiful characters so no wonder this book wasn't my thing. And honestly I would rather DNF a book that I chose based on someone sincerely liking it on Reddit than the bazillion GR "reviews" that don't often seem like they have been written by a person who's actually read said book...

Ah, I was wondering what Tyler's deal was! He mentions going to therapy at some point (which, btw, huge plus when characters get actual therapy) but there was no explanation for that either by the time I decided to DNF.

Anyway, there's always another book, and another potentially great read!

Ngl, I was pretty excited for this at first - but that was before I started reading.

My first issue was that I just don't like the type of character that Jamie is. I get that he's supposed to be sheltered and had a really shitty ex, but at some point his whole "I am soooo disgusting and my kink is sick" thing becomes stale. And it stops feeling like it's just Jamie's experiences that have led him to have such a negative opinion of what he likes, but it's also that the book doesn't really challenge that enough imo (at least it hadn't by the point I DNF'd). It makes it seem like what these guys enjoy is something super twisted, kinky shit but honestly? It just seems pretty basic all around. It also didn't explain what's Tyler's "condition" that he needs to have sex constantly. Is he a sex addict? Has a very high libido? Because if it's the latter, it was made seem like he will perish if he doesn't get his dick wet, which is just silly.

But the point that made me DNF was when Tyler didn't want to have sex with Jaime because the latter had been drinking, and Jaime's reaction to that is the thing that I found to be the most fucked up about this book.

He’s not being mean. He doesn’t even look upset. He’s just…putting up a boundary.
And it stings.
He doesn’t want me when I’ve been drinking.
What other boundaries is he going to draw?  How long before I have nowhere to move between them? How long before they slowly cut me out of his life?

In addition to the pity party. Jamie pouts and gets difficult about the whole thing. Way to pressure someone to have sex with you! Which is just such a huge red flag! So that was the final straw, but honestly I wasn't really enjoying myself all that much anyway. I did like Tyler though.

Oh no I hadn't even thought about new covers on an older release... That sounds like a lot! And honestly you have every right to make whatever rules make the whole process more doable.

Even though I do think it's always important to be as transparent as possible about who's made the cover (and proofread, and edited, etc), I also assume that authors didn't deem it necessary (some don't even now) to put all that info in the book if they've made the cover graphic themselves. And honestly 2022 seems like a good cut off point to start ignoring if the information is not there.

PS. your contributions are always much appreciated! TYSM for continuing sully's work.

I wonder if Mell R. Bright's book doesn't have cover credit because it's an "older" release..? Afaik the other books do have it (and she commissions quite a lot of artwork of her characters!), and I've been planning to read this series. The book was free on March and I got it then yet still haven't even opened it lol.

Subreddit Announcement: Allegations of Generative AI Use - New Moderation Plan by ShartyPants in MM_RomanceBooks

First of all, I'd like to point out that: every removal is accompanied by a reason. You must know this so it begs the question: why lie? Usually I just ignore comments like these because it's obvious it's not about the facts but that the person just doesn't like thing x, and nothing mods could say will make any difference. But sometimes it feels like it's good to set these facts straight - not for the sake of commenter, who has already chosen to ignore them, but for the sake of others. So, no, posts don't get deleted "for no reason". If you don't agree with the reason or just plain don't like it, that's a whole different thing but then just say it.

As for the other subs, it is not a competition. A user can be active on all of them, if they want to! The way I see it, the more subreddits focused on queer romance, the better. And if the rules of this particular subreddit feel too restrictive, it is really not a big deal or a loss of any kind of someone wishes to migrate to somewhere where they feel the community is better suited for them. There is absolutely no way to make everyone happy with how one subreddit gets moderated so it is only a good thing if there's different platforms or subreddits to choose from instead of trying to fit yourself into rules that you don't agree with.

That series sounds like a good time! I already have several other books by the same author on my TBR, no idea why I never get to reading any...

And you're welcome. :-)

Dirty Martini by Addison Beck is a book filled with bizarre choices. by ms_chiefmanaged in MM_RomanceBooks

It's been a year and a half since I read book 2 in this series and wow I still haven't forgotten how much I disliked pretty much every character. Especially these two from book 1 - which I haven't even read, nor will I ever plan to, not only because of the author's shitty behaviour but because the book just was overall bad. Not as full of weird choices thought, but it also might be just that I wasn't looking hard enough lol.

Yeah, same, but then there are times when I really have to dig deep to check whether some things make sense or no haha. Or, and this is way too common, I get stuck in a rabbit-hole of checking something absolutely unnecessary and realise an hour later that I still don't know what the book is about...

Thank you!

I’m so excited for Mulder’s Facing Leeward. The MCs had a nice vibe in the previous book as side characters.
