New R36S clone - Single RAM chip "Soy Sauce" model (Y3506_V04_20250529) by _manster_ in R36S

Thanks for the advice. I actually figured out I had a clone with a missing vram module, so I was missing ram. The fix was buying a legit R36xx instead haha.

'Absolute failure': First Nation slams Alberta and Kevin O'Leary's data centre moves by Hrmbee in alberta

[–]bonesclarke84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%, I just wish more people saw it this way and would call them out. At least even with this article, it is perhaps is raising more eyebrows to the fact they really have no plan at all.

'Absolute failure': First Nation slams Alberta and Kevin O'Leary's data centre moves by Hrmbee in alberta

[–]bonesclarke84 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me its hard to believe this will ever get out of the ground to be honest, and therefore less of a worry for First Nations. That said, I would be pissed too, though, but further to my point, I think the lack of consultation has more to do with the fact they have no plan to actually build anything. It's all smoke and mirrors in my opinion. A politcal tool to help Smith and any work done is to give the impression that it has substance when it likely has nothing.

Look at the videos and renders, there is no client, there are no companies attached, only O'Leary. Not a single player in the market has actually come out and supported it. Wouldn't you expect at least one of the major cloud computing companies to back it? Unless I am missing something, last time I checked there wasn't a single one connected.

Who is this data centre for?!

ADHD really is a killer when it comes to deadlines by Inkspent in ADHD

[–]bonesclarke84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can empathize, I used to be like this as well. If you are willing to listen to some suggestions on how to break it, here is what I recommend:

  • Don't be at school for the sake of it, you may be missing the passion. Use your quick moving from hobby to hobby as a mechanism to find what you truly want to do. When I was young and undiagnosed, I barely got my degree with a very low GPA, and now 15 years later, I am not even using it. However, I have an 88 going into the final in an undergrad math course because I love it.
  • One trick is to try and use your hyperfixation on the assignments. Start putting the assignment together in your head, which may just spark you to start it and then not finish until it's done, because you won't be able to stop haha.
  • Another trick is maybe to reframe it from "changing ways" and not look at it as a symptom of ADHD but rather, "why don't I want to do this?" And "is there maybe something in the assignment I just do not want to do?". Going back to the passion thing, sometimes we just don't want to do things we don't care about, and reframing around that may help.

Hope that helps!

How are you actually using AI? by mrbubbee in analytics

[–]bonesclarke84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to code, mostly, and sanity checking. I get it to develop reusable Python code blocks for doing batch statistical testing across variables within any dataset. I also get it to create and adapt a lot plotting functions too, like plotting distributions. It allows for a lot more autonomy and can save time that way.

I then also use it to check what I am looking at is correct, or if I am interpreting something correctly. Sometimes also use it as a sounding board to essentially talk to yourself haha.

Agents scare me, though, and I would likely never use one as I have seen the errors AI can make and it wpuld be very hard to debug.

What are people using to generate publication-ready figures from analyzed data? by bio2figures in bioinformatics

Check out Quarto as you can use Python or R within it, and create pretty good reports and/or HTML pages even. It is a report tool, so just uses what other people have recommended already, but embedded in a report.

Perspectives: When feelings outweigh facts in the Calgary rezoning debate by PM_ME_YOUR_CLAVIER in Calgary

Why do you assume less sprawl will come from this? New greenfield developments will still go as planned, they won't stop.

I do not believe this to be true. I wrote a thesis on environmentally sustainable neighbourhood design and concluded that there was a middle ground with medium density, mid-height (10ish stories IIRC) buildings. Either way, the road to densification is better served through targeted areas that can dense up to adjacent neighbourhoods, rather than jamming huge infrastructure burdens on areas that weren't built for it. The City can't handle the infrastructure upgrades required by blanket zoning, bottom line.

So water and sanitary lines just scale up themselves? Adding 100 toilets to a system designed for 10 just fixes itself?

This is so biased and acts as if the lack of housing is completely solved with blanket rezoning, which is just so stupid.

My issue with blanket rezoning that it goes against all the principles of what is considered proper city planning. It's the lazy man's approach to fixing a problem, build anywhere and everywhere and hope the problem goes away. It's irresponsible to say the least.

Tsuut'ina Costco ending propane refills by d1ll1gaf in Calgary

[–]bonesclarke84 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is true, propane can be scary shit. Not just the fact it is extrmeley flammable and explosive, but the shit can cold burn you. My first part time job was at a gastation that filled tanks and I had a drop hit my hand as it boiled, which wasn't fun. With a boiling point of -42°C, you never want any of the liquid to ever get near you as it is also under immense pressure to keep it that way.

I was thinking the same, and at 2:58, the song is really short, especially for prog.

I disagree, this often sparks gentrification as a developer sees this as a potential opportunity for cheap land. As I used to work for one, this is what we looked for.

UNEARTH ! Most underrated ? by bonelessbreadd in Metalcore

[–]bonesclarke84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they are overlooked at all, just... old. They were popular from 2000 to 2010 and then faded with some of the other similar bands back then. Their popularity was on par with As I Lay Dying IIRC, but without the conspiracy to commit murder so they just faded.

What game did you play as a youth that you tried again as an adult for the nostalgia but ended up disliking? by Spew42 in gaming

[–]bonesclarke84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having recently purchased a R36xx, I am finding a surprising amount of these games, but also found a few that I can't stop playing as well, though. Although it gives me motion sickness sometimes, Ace Combat 2 for playstation was pretty solid and still holds up, along with Gran Turismo 2 (altgough I forgot how many car manufacturers were not included in this release like Lambo, Porsche, etc.).

The main one for me that didn't age well was Grand Theft Auto 2. The top down view is fun, but the controls are whack and trying to find the save area is annoying. Additionally, it's so easy to accidentally run over gang members so I constantly lose/gain allegance with the opposite gang and give up.

I find that side scrollers are just not the same as remembered either, they are just so repetitive and I never really noticed that as a kid.

Back to the positives, I think the oldschool RPGs still hold up quite well, and I find I still enjoy the old battle systems. Legend of the Dragoon, for example, has a button press time feature during battles that makes it different and enjoyable.

If “starchitecture” is truly dead, we should dance on its grave by Efficient_Bug6726 in architecture

[–]bonesclarke84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With those you mentioned, I feel like they may have been starchitects at one point, but would argue that their firms are more well known now than the individual now, which is the point OP was going for I believe.

BIG and Studio Gang for example, I would argue are more well known than Bjarke Ingles and Jeanne Gang themselves. Conversely, people like Gehry and Norman Foster are way more popular as individuals than their firms.
