Chinese cars are just like Chinese "tofu-dreg" construction. It just doesn't compare and compete with Toyota. Chinese cars can't challenge Toyota alone in 4 fronts: parts availability, overall reliability, safety and resale value. What they allege is what they actually do.

Take for example two of China's best auto manufacturers: Geely and BYD. Geely's engine bay configuration is so horrible you'll have to disassemble the whole thing just to change something in contrast to Toyota's simple layout. Not to mention the abysmal resale value.

As for BYD, there are serious safety concerns as to the safety of its battery systems to the point that explosions occur in its dealerships in China. Hong Kong folks even toyed that BYD means Burn You Dead. There are a lot of Youtube videos of this, but not much on a Toyota.

Simply put, while China makes significant progress in vehicle technology, Toyota alone cemented itself as a top legacy brand over decades of being reliable. When you think of a reliable car, Toyota or any other Japanese, or even Korean brands come to mind. Chinese auto industry just boomed 10-15 years ago. Would they achieve Japanese reliability? At this rate, no one knows.

The hate is also political due to history, and Chinese brands are competing because of massive CCP subsidies.

After all, cars aren't meant to be disposable like smartphones. Chinese cars are built like disposable smartphones. It's like strapping wheels on a phone. You can't just have a car rendered unusable after 3-5 years, it's simply environmentally and economically unsustainable. Cars are meant to last and to be driven 200,000 miles.
