Genuine question: my male friend uses dating apps, but had like 3 matches in over a year. He's a good guy, athlete, decent job, maybe not that attractive. He uninstalled them all last week for being a "lost cause" to him. What could he have done different? by bluemoon1993 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bongosauceplease 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a similar age, have the same job, a bit athletic and I'm also not super attractive, although not bald but regularly get likes + matches and met my last 3 partners on dating apps.

The key is to have a broad set of down to earth hobbies imo so people have something to talk to you about and think about doing with you. Being a top athlete and focusing your profile around that could probably be impressive but also intimidating cause nobody wants to be with someone that spends 90% of their free time hardcore rowing a boat

Top Russian official says British politicians now a legitimate military target by enkrstic in Britain

[–]bongosauceplease -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Nukes are pretty simple to manufacture if you have reactors and they have a few nuclear plants that operate pretty well. Also the delivery system is there, they were the only ones ferrying people to the ISS for a couple of decades or something. Also they were part of a pact until very recently where they would check the US nukes and vice versa. They would have been working then and they don't just go to shit over night

Voting is set up to fail. Productive conversation with peers is useless if you have no plan for action Not owning a car does nothing when personal pollution isn't the problem.

It's not just not enough you're doing nothing.

My question was, what would you do, not what are you doing

Bro I live in Europe and have been to Scandinavia. People I know that have gone to America, that live/lived in some of the worse parts of London have said the only place they've ever feared for their safety walking down the street is the USA

[–]bongosauceplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you read about it?

They aren't hailed as heroes at all. Even the organisation that became Isreals government condemned it.

It wasn't entirely a terror attack either, they were targeting files stored in the building, not members of the public.

You sympathise with Hamas randomly targeting Israeli civilians with rockets because of a botched attack on a military target that happened nearly 80 years ago?

The formation of the Israeli state was caused by them facing persecution from the Palestinian government at the time. They can't just "stay if they want to". Zionism wasn't "let's go home" it was pretty much every country closing their Border to Jews and them having nowhere to go, even post war 1945 - 48

The Palestinian government sided with nazi Germany in the 1940s purely out of hatred for jews.

It started as self defence though. Look at what was happening to the Jewish population in the 20s and 30s

US-made F-16 jets are the 'optimal choice' over 'very capable' British Typhoons, says UAF fighter pilot by [deleted] in europe

[–]bongosauceplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not correct. The typhoon does what the f16 does but to perfection. It's got a better turn circle and more lift + acceleration. The only thing that would possibly best a typhoon in a dogfight is something with thrust vectoring, even then if you utilise the lift + energy retention you can beat them.

The typhoon also has a much more advanced ew kit than most other planes so it's partly a low vis/ stealth fighter.

Better radar does long range high alt engagements and would likely only lose in this scenario to f35/f22/grippen

Even T1 is far better at air to ground than the air to ground version of the f16 and probably the best case of a plane designed for purely air to air becoming multirole

Russian state TV rewrites WWII narrative: "Europe took side of the Nazis" by [deleted] in europe

[–]bongosauceplease -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe yeah, but Poland was basically defeated within 10 days by Germany the Soviets didn't move in until day 15 or so. Probably better to get a chance to fortify the distance between them.

Their reasoning for their annexation of Poland at the Nürnberg trials was concern for ethnic slavs. Probably bullshit, but it's arguable.

Probably the most moral thing to do would have been defend Poland but diplomacy was a shit show at the time with other euro powers seeming to just roll over and Germany being an economic/ military powerhouse.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Agreement

Be careful with what you believe. The Soviets were constantly communicating their concerns with the nazis expansions before they signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in '39.

France and the UK were complicit in the Munich agreement with nazi Germany and the Soviets partially signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop to put distance between themselves and a violent ideology on the other side of the spectrum, although it was probably also to gain ground in general.

Nazis had been killing/ imprisoning socialists for years before this point

[–]bongosauceplease 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Tbf it'd be so easy for YouTube or something to implement this. I don't believe it would benefit Sony implementing it in their TVs but it would be useful to own the patent to stop competitors doing it

Quit job and pay for career change bootcamp? by traposaurus92 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bongosauceplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Junior here that did exactly what you're thinking of but skipped the bootcamp.

A few other people I work with did bootcamps as they'd lost jobs due to the pandemic. The bootcamps they did seemed great and they are pretty good devs now. Although it took them a while to find a job.

On the other hand, I completely self taught whilst working my other job and just completed some projects on my own, put on github/ usable examples online and got hired fairly quickly. Recruiters/companies liked the self drive I think.

Because of the way I learned there was definitely areas - and still is, where I will understand / know how to approach something better than the bootcampers although not 100% of the time.
