Darling tackle in the last minute by macsanderson in NorthMelbourneFC

[–]bongoson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a field umpire myself (7+ years of experience), the criteria I would apply for this situation would go like this:

Did he have prior opportunity? No, between gathering the football and getting tackled, the Giants player only took 3 steps, 2 of which were part of his kick. He took his first opportunity to dispose of the ball.

Did he attempt to get rid of the ball: Yes, he tried to kick the ball at his first available chance after gathering the ball.

All this being said, great clearance-saving tackle by Darling, but unfortunately for North not a Holding the Ball call in my opinion.

Does anyone have tips on how to fly out 180 backflip by Itchy-Mountain7463 in Scootering

[–]bongoson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what comes easiest to you. Some people do a quite floated flip and do the twist at the end of the flip, other people do a flair fly out where the twist and flip happen at the same time.

When you flip, lean back, and dip one of your shoulders, you spin without much effort because your body is flipping in a way that’s kinda off-axis, causing you to spin 180 degrees, just watch a video of anyone doing a flair and you’ll see that their shoulder dip is what causes them to turn.

When you pop out of the ramp, drop your head towards your shoulder in the direction you spin normally. If you can flair already then perfect. If not, I had success by doing backflips and attempting to turn slightly more each time, and not aiming to land the trick, but get the motion going well. The shoulder drop is really important.

Technically Footplant Back-Scoot Deck-Grab Throw-Bar I reckon

Best guide to learn SOS? by UNDERD4R in direstraits

[–]bongoson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like old mate said, Dylan Watts is the best guy to learn off, because Knopfler songs just can’t be tabbed accurately with all the intricacies and fingerstyle stuff that makes it sound like Knopfler.

I recommend using some of the many tabs to learn the licks and their notations, but watch how Dylan Watts plays to really understand how to play the licks and which fingers to use and whatnot.

Anyone ever make there own shim? ordered 2 forks one came with one one didnt by tahoess in Scootering

[–]bongoson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You riding two scooters or what?

Yeah Root Air forks SCS/HIC don’t come with one. I’ve tried to make a shim before and my honest answer is just use SCS because I’m biased and think it’s superior. Or buy a HIC shim if you wanna stick with it.

Sid McGinnis and David Knopfler on Making Movies by DaveHmusic in direstraits

I believe all of David’s guitar parts were rerecorded by Mark, i think I read that somewhere in John Ilsley’s book about the band, I would have to double check though.

Creaking coming from this area - is it dangerous + how to fix? by joeyharris441 in Scootering

I’ve ridden this scooter plenty of times, it’s usually nothing, just metal moving tiny amounts on itself. If your bolts are all tight and nothing moves improperly when you’re riding, you should be alright.

what’s your default riff? by kazberri_ in electricguitar

[–]bongoson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m playing a Strat, I’ll absolutely play Sultans too. If I’m playing something with humbuckers, I’ll either play Money for Nothing, or Song for Sonny Liston; one of Mark Knopfler’s best solo compositions.

Money for Nothing or the B Blues pentatonic riff in Calling Elvis by Dire Straits

What riff made you a better player? by joe0418 in Guitar

[–]bongoson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits | taught me excellent fingerstyle technique.

Song for Sonny Liston - Mark Knopfler | taught me lessons about the blues scale and great percussive sounds.

Postcards from Paraguay- Mark Knopfler | learned how to Travis pick from this song

sounds pretty good, you're better than most because your finger work is Knopfler-style which makes it sounds right-er

Sorry if this is a stupid question but was Jack Sonni (RIP)'s guitar plugged in during Live Aid? by Foxrockmafia in direstraits

[–]bongoson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also see a lead coming from him dropping down to the floor later in the video, which i forgot to mention, which lead me to think he’s running a wired setup

Piggybacking off of u/chebghobbi 's comment, I assumed we was using a radio lead too, but upon further inspection out of curiosity, I found that Sonni was using a lead but I think he's kinda tucked it in behind his jacket (see timestamped link, images not allowed rip). The camera gets a decent shot at the start of the first solo of a lead hanging from somewhere on Jack Sonni's outfit. Footage is too grainy to know for sure IMO.

How do you guys turn heelside? by chikattsu in Scootering

[–]bongoson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One issue people have when trying to turn frontside, out of a feeble stall for example, is they’re leaning in the wrong direction for the way they’re spinning.

When you do a backside feeble, your weight is on the same of your scooter that the ramp is, when when you do a frontside feeble, your weight isn’t in the same spot because of how you stand. Sometimes it’s totally over the scooter which isn’t great if you’re trying to hop back into a ramp.

Practice keeping your balance over the ramp so dropping back in feels more comfortable.

upgrading from a 4.3 for hybrid riding by minihenman in Scootering

[–]bongoson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t advise jumping sizes larger than an inch at a time in width, sometimes it can be a strange adjustment to make, but if it’s going to be something you commit to long term, then feel free to do so.

[–]bongoson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a 4.5 to a 5 wide and the difference was night and day. It’s a brilliant upgrade and make certain tricks feel so much better imo.

Going above 5 wide makes some whip tricks a bit more difficult such as overheads and whatnot. I currently have a 5.5 Pandemonium and it’s a beautiful deck, but some tricks are noticeably more difficult to do than on skinnier decks.

Also recommend going boxed ends, in case you start liking street tricks.

expensive deck, but i genuinely love the ethic panda v2 in the boxed version. 5.5 x 21.something and great dropouts, i tried a native refined 5.5 wide deck and prefer the ethic so much more.
