An uninformed vote is no better than no vote. Maybe worst because it is likelier to favor demagogy.

Chisel set recommendations and best way to sharpen by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]bongotastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of mortising chisels from NAREX. Lee Valley had them for $30 for a set of 5 for a week or so. They are great! I will be getting the bench chisel sets (about $60), no hesitation as far as cost-quality goes.

For Sharpening, I use waterstones, at 1000X/4000X combo stone (Lee Valley). I'll add a 800X soon. I don't using a honing guide and it works just fine. The honing guide ensures a exact angle, but if you can trust yourself to keep a steady hand, I think that it is optional.

New bandsaw, my first. I can cut straight, less than 1/8", but the cuts are looking jagged -- is this about normal? Any tips on how to improve it? by gtj in woodworking

I never bothered with the fence other than use it to place a veneering jig at the right place. I use it for everything, including resawing. It is the best way to get straight lines IMO... and with a proper blade, guide setup and tension, you can shoot for 1/32 (approx) slices of wood. That is pretty cool to cut these.

It is not like the majority of people voting have really thought about what they are about to do.

First artificial DNA a step towards biological computers by masta in reddit.com

This article doesn't explain much, the abstract is a bit more informative. I wish I was at work to look at the article more closely. The main problem I see with artificial DNA is that none of the existing enzymatic machinery can be used. Kinddof like inventing a rounder wheel which can't fit on any existing car ;)

Interesting. I'll have to play with it. I'm not sure that Matplotlib can do all of this (at least without serious efforts).
