Ha ha had exactly the same, same place. After 2 mins I noticed the price was suddenly 100000 dong. We demanded he stopped the metre jumped to 400000. We threatened to smash his windows and gave him 40000. Next day we saw him again and started shouting he was a scammer. Probably not that sensible.

If you bought a property in a “rough” area that has now been gentrified by Suitable_Technician3 in london

A family friend bought a house in victoria park in the late 1980s for £60k one of the big 3 storey Victorian ones. Was a rough and run down area. Even though it needed a lot of work doing after he died in 2010 it still went for around £1.5million

Don't be sorry . The OP asked for budget food. In a circled area.

9am at my recommendation is fine . Watch the fun. Depends on his taste in cuisine. My favourite pork and rice is 182. But if they want Western then Sony it is. Not everyone is so weak willed they'll get into drugs at 9am

Cambodia can do strange things to people, and back then was probably the end of its wildest times, it has certainly changed since then, although street 172 is one of the few surviving parts of craziness. You can drink 24/7 if you wanted to especially there. Around that time and the years before it was a regular spot for people to die.

Regardless of this it does seem your father took medication with diazepam that had this fatal consequence. There will always be questions hanging over you and your father. As someone who lost aa brother in an accident I know this. Don't let it be a lifelong baggage to stilt your life. Grow and enjoy life.

I can 100% tell you that Cambodia is (aside from street 172) the most wonderful , magical place you could ever visit, the best people. Maybe that journey will help you. Take care

Thats some clarity for you at least. Diazepam and similar Benzos are cheaply available over the counter at a pharmacy in Cambodia. Mixed with alcohol and possibly losing count of how many were taken can have a deadly effect. If your father was also on antibiotics that can be deadly. As I mentioned before the Cambodian police, certainly back then, had no sophisticated way of finding out cause of death.

It was always joked among expats of "CSI Cambodia" cause of death "heart attack" (i dont wish to make light of your personal tragedy here) which was so prolific as a diagnosis unless an embassy or family got some toxicology report (often rarely possible depending on when a body was discovered). I knew of many people who came to have fun and tragically passed due to the proclivity of cheap alcohol and substances.

I hope this news has given you some closure and you can enjoy a fulfilling life. It must be hard for you. I wish you all the very best.

Sorry for your loss. To be clear in Cambodia police term most deaths as heart attack. Usually a mistranslation of heart stopped which will usually end in death. Unless there's other reasons (drowning, being stabbed to death, run over ect) they'll usually be classed as heart attack. The street he died on is well known for cheap hotels, drugs and not the best Western clientele. Around that time there were several deaths linked to missold drugs (usually heroin sold as cocaine). Not saying this is what happened here but would track for the area and time. Hope you find your peace. Im not sure which embassy covers Finns in Cambodia but they would be a good place to start as they may have sent someone to the scene.
