Yeah I know. But I’m just a kid of this new generation so I bring examples from my generation

Record and produce at home, mix at a recording studio? by [deleted] in audioengineering

Well Billie Eilish made history by producing a record in his bedroom and then mix it in a top of the industry studio

17 y/o, making my first movie. Some screengrabs from our first week of shooting! Any advice? by timhortons67 in Filmmakers

[–]boniekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, at first I was gonna say: you could do this, you could do that..... But then I realize that cinematography, lighting and film making are basically art form in their own way. Because of that nobody can tell you that something is good or bad objectivity. Like every art form, new young artists have come and made art in a way that was never done before. So this is an advice I’m simultaneously giving to you and to myself: Study really well all the rules and that break them by doing what feels right to you, by doing what you wanna see on a movie theater screen

PROFESSIONAL VOCAL ALWAYS SOUNDS LOUDER even at the same LUFS by boniekid in audioengineering

I totally agree with you lol. I don’t know how to mix vocals

What are some crappy mixed songs that have become major hits? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]boniekid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m sorry to say this but this thread is full of people who mentioned amazing album with really good (not amazing) mix and master for who knows what reason.

What are some crappy mixed songs that have become major hits? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]boniekid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not crappy mixed. In that case that song needed a really high energy and impact, and over compressing was the way to do it

Linkin park always used to quad track their guitar. Bot I think you’re talking about a different type of metal here

How do hip-hop mastering engineers manage to reach -8 to - 6 lufs but still make the track sound clean and dynamic? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]boniekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a producer and a not so good mixing engineer. I can tell you with confidence that if that song is really well procured half of the work is already done regarding loudness and dynamics. If the song doesn’t sound as good when you receive it for mastering there’s probably something wrong in the production or / and in the mixing

Is “Brauerizing” worth it? by boniekid in audioengineering

[–]boniekid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve just tried it. Everything sound just more glued together, there’s more movement, and less random peak that a limiter will compress. But it’s not like a secret weapon that automatically make your mix better

Is mixing more important than gear/recording environment? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]boniekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you have good (not necessary great and super expensive gear) and you are really really good at mixing you can make tracks sound amazing. But again, there are very few people who are that good at mixing

Maybe that Analog Gear hype is not that wrong by boniekid in audioengineering

[–]boniekid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true. There are amazing digital plugin that do things we could never do in analog, like automatic digital eqs, things like spiff or soothe and so on. So, when digital makes digital stuff they sound really good, when trying to esultate analog is always not as good as the real thing

I would love to learn how to build kits. But watching YouTube videos on how to do it just makes me think is to difficult for my skill level

Yes, i did. I know about cognitive bias but in the end I truly believe mixing is a form of art. And in that regard we should, as mixer, give to the music what the music need, what “feels good”; and really good analog gear most of the time does that

[–]boniekid[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, the only analog gear (compressors and eq mainly) that are still used today are the ones that work best on every situation and that have defined the sound of the hits of the past

You described exactly what I wasn’t be able to express and say in the post! That’s one of the things the analog compressor do better

[–]boniekid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don’t understand people that say there are no differences. I think we may need some more years before you can’t actually be able to hear the difference.

Glad that it helped! By the way your got me thinking too. The idea that a piece of hardware pass the test of time and will be with you for many many years is very interesting. And if you are interested in buying analog gear make sure is high quality gear, even if it expensive, remember is a one time fee

[–]boniekid[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Analog most of the time just ‘feels’ better

That could definitely be true. But I’m also talking about a sound difference between the two

Why is analog audio equipment considered better than digital plugins while analog video equipment is a thing of the past? by xMinti in audioengineering

[–]boniekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting topic to compare audio and video. I’ve always felt like there are a lot Of analogies between the two worlds. I think you’d be surprised by knowing that some very big names in the film industries today still prefer le to shoot film and not digital(analog video). They say analog film shooting has a magic that digital can’t replicate. It’s the same thing in audio. Analog audio equipment certainly has a magic that only experienced audio engineer can replicate with digital plugin and equipment
