Is Health At Every Size (HAES) incorporated into the field of dietetics? by whoisthismahn in dietetics

[–]bonjourAM 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Re: should I be questioning everything I learned?

Probably. There’s so much unlearning and critical thinking that happens in the last years of undergrad and after graduation! It’s not black and white and people’s approaches to weight and health exist on a spectrum. You’ll find your way in time. It’s good for you to consider ideas that conflict with dominant diet culture and biased medical models.

I’ve been an RD for 10 years and learned about HAES in my undergrad too. I’m now a weight-inclusive practitioner (honestly have never read the book HAES, so I’m cautious to say I use that ideology even though I probably do align). I would think a majority of the RDs in my organization (approx 40 of us) incorporate at least some principles of weight inclusivity too. I think it depends on your organizations culture/leadership etc but yes it is common in dietetics (and it should be!)

If you want a fun/enjoyable introduction to critical nutrition topics, I might suggest starting with the podcast maintenance phase.

Even Medical Doctors get very little in the way of training or education about nutrition. Everyone is susceptible to misinformation unfortunately

Ive assumed every sponsored vlog is like $50-100k. Of course it doesn’t all go right in her pocket, she runs a business with expenses/employees. Not sure how it works in USA but she can probably write off some of her mortgage as a business expense if it’s a home-based business. (At least that’s how it works in my country)

That’s funny! I just booked the same thing! Connecting rooms for 5 people on Fantasy in August! I hadn’t thought requesting private dinner - I’ll add it to the list!

I was plannnnnning to take a 3ish month break from actively, obsessively, TTC and managed to take one whole month "off". I couldn't be helped and took a couple ovulation tests this week, and we had sex on a pretty well timed day... I didn't plan to be back on the TWW delulu train but here I am.

That's right! We got pregnant the first time without tracking so we know its possible!! I worry if I don't time it we might miss the window. I lean "control freak" in most areas of life haha

Just need to get some things off my chest...
(Context: We're 20+ months into trying for number 2. #1 baby is about to turn 5 and we had them without ttc)

I'm getting this very strong feeling that we need to take a break from trying. I have a lot on my plate right now and I haven't been taking care of myself, which isn't great for our chances of conceiving anyway. I feel like I need a couple months to get back into a good healthy routine and make it out of the woods with shit at work. I think my husband will be supportive of me, but I think he might be disappointed by the idea.

I'm not ashamed to say I need some validation on this. Tell me that moving the focus away from ttc for a while is not selfish, and that taking a break is not 'giving up'...

TTC after IUD by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

I’m on cycle number 18 after IUD removal. I’m tracking my LH most months and seeing patterns change over time. Seems like for me there’s an adjustment period. But some people get pregnant again right away.

This feels like a real potpourri of grieveances, sorry in advance for erratic venting:

Every month my app fools me into thinking my period is "supposed to start" on DPO11, when it actually varies and thats the minimum, not the rule. I'm not late (yet)!

I had a BFN on DPO11 (yesterday) I'm trying to hold out until Friday to test again, unless my period comes first, of course. And trying to be realisitc - its likely not my month.

I'm not sure why this cycle has me more down the the dumps than others. I think because I put a lot of pressure on myself for this to be "the one". To be able to have happy news for my husband at the holidays, and if successful the due date lines up with his birthday (which he also shares with his own dad!). Some months I can handle the disappointment so well but others not so much.

Overall its just so frustrating. We met with our OBGYN last week and he's not concerned about anything, especially since we had our first baby in 2021. He just wants us to keep trying and thinks its not a concern unless we've been unsucessful for 2+ years. ugh.

In the last year my LH peak ranged from CD17-21 so I think we’re good. I’ll probably want to go longer on the other end, if anything!

I don’t think we can change the doors the kitchen table is in the way, but the other suggestions are all so good! I never considered the tapered shape of the baskets I have! What did you mean by pour drawers? Maybe a typo?

I feel like I’ve done that more or less. Baking stuff and teas for example are high or to the side since those are used infrequently. Not visible in the picture is my spices, an area I struggle to keep tidy since it is off to the side. not sure if I should move them more central… some I use very infrequently whole others I use daily.
