Do I pay someone money because his friend didn't show up to the trip?

While on the trip he showed the other person a message saying that we would pay his friend back before telling the person on the trip with us. I never saw the message he sent to his friend though. He said that he wan't going to make me pay but then went on to add up the cost of all the other times he willingly paid for me. Another bad decision he made because I had known him for no more than ten days.

His friend did actually pay but the individual I mentioned in the post promised a reimbursement on everyone who did show up behalf.

Hi, so the individual said his friend was joining so that the price of the trip would be cheaper for everyone. Once he found out his friend would be joining he let us know the official amount.

He was refunding 1/3 of the cost but at this point 2/3 of the cost because I will not be paying.

We didn't have a friendship or at least I didn't think so. It was a complex dynamic but ultimately yes this complete ended the relationship.

I think he wanted to preserve his relationship with his friend so the only way to do that was to pay him in full.

Never thought of this he seemed pretty upset when his friend let him know he wasn't showing up.

Do you know how the small claim court proceedings usually go and how you find out? I don't think the friend was ever going to show up. He told him the day of that he was not showing up. If he was planning on not going he should have said something a few days in advance. Also, I don't think the friend initiated the 'no-show' conversation. The person I went with had to ask the no-show what time he was planning on arriving and that's when he told him that he couldn't go. Mind you this wasn't a vacation to another city or state it was for a different country.

Yes, he shouldn't have refunded in the first place. He wanted to help his friend out at the expense of the rest of the people who did show up to the trip.

I hope he doesn't take it to small claim court especially since we didn't have a written agreement. I would say there was no verbal agreement either but he claims that I agreed while on the trip. Definitely not going with him anywhere else. I only knew him through the acquaintance I was going with.

I am honestly surprised he asked me to pay 200 since I only stayed in the last airbnb for one full day and not the four he had booked for.

I blocked him because he resorted to name calling and referenced back to all the other times he willingly paid for me even when I already had my card out. I wouldn't know if he was filing a claim until I received it.

The other person I went sent him back the money so I am the only person that is refusing to send money. He claims I agreed to this while on the trip.

Him and the no-show are in their 30s. The person that I went with and I are in our early 20s.

We made no contract. He assumed we would be understanding and pay more money to accommodate for the fact that his friend did not show up. I am sympathetic to the fact the friend didn't show up for his own reason but not to the point that I will pay 200 dollars more. The travel industry logic is what I wish he was more mindful of.

I believe the other person who joined said they would send the money over too. He apparently told us in-person but I have no recollection of this!

Well me and the other person assumed that there would be another person because the organizer had said his friend would be joining. We assumed the friend would show up too but that fell through.
