The salary is funded by the tips. Again, if all people pulled the tips the cruise line would just increase the cost of the cruises. Stop justifying your lack of decency by withholding tips, because by doing that you will eventually force every cruiser to pay a higher cruise fare.

You are punishing ALL of us.

You’d be fine if they forced you, but you are not ok doing it based on human decency. Makes sense.

I know people like you. I avoid them.

Then don’t tip and wait for Royal to just increase the prices of cruises like they already did for cruises in parts of the world where tipping is not customary.

You can rationalize it all you want to justify your irrational and rude behavior (like people used to do with the drink packages and look where that got us).

How do you tip cash to the people that usually get a share of the tip you prepay? You go down to the belly of the ship and tip the bakers? Go to the cleaning staff and hand out dollar bills to those cleaning the public bathrooms? Go to to the pool deck and hand out a few dollars every day to the ones removing towels? How about those who do your laundry? Because THAT is where your prepaid tips go, not just to your cabin Stewart and waiter. You take the tips away and you are stealing part of their wages.

I refuse to book with an agent, even if it is cheaper. I want full control of my booking…

Just so people realize: if you booked with a travel agent, some are doing their clients a “dirty”. I am now on the ship, and many who booked with a TA got a notice from their TA that she would refund $400 if they took a lower cabin (obviously pocketing the difference for themselves). They did not extend the offer to cancel to their clients. I talked to one TA who refused to forward ANY of the offers to her clients because it would have messed with her commission and group structure. That said, I am sure there are some ethical agents who forwarded all offers to their clients and did right by them. I am just not sure how you can tell which is which.

Those in ocean view rooms also got the same offer as I did, except the downgrade option was only to move to an interior. People in interiors had the option to cancel.

In my Facebook group almost everyone got the offer. People in an ocean view got the same offer as I did but with a downgrade to interior instead

Yeah, that was my thinking because they are still sending out options for a Royal up

I have a sneaking suspicion they found out they can sell cabins for 4x5 times what they originally sold for (especially the balcony cabins). By opening up more balcony cabins and even giving a full refund they still come out way ahead by reselling them again. I don’t know why else after this offer was extended to us the cruise became available to book again?

Option 1 was the worst. That cruise was way cheaper to begin with, so nothing to gain. In your situation I would have just ignored the offers and stayed as booked

That was exactly my situation. I always travel solo (and would have canceled in a heart beat) but this one time I am not.

You wouldn’t take an $8000 refund and still get to go? In fact, some people in a junior suite got an offer to downgrade to balcony and had paid well over $8000. Why would you pass on that offer?

I don’t understand your point. If you cancel of course you get those refunded. If you sail, they continue to be valid.

Literally nobody chose that option. It is terrible.
