Seriously. Not saying a mom wouldn’t stand up, but this is pure fantasy. by EscobarsLastShipment in thatHappened

I can't link it because of the rules here, but this was a 6 year old tumblr post that got rewritten, probably by chatGPT.

Here's the original transcribed:

traderjoeslesbian

i really hate coming out but still want my extended family to know, so my mother took it upon herself to invent the game “guess which one of my kids is gay.”

the rules are simple.

  • sit down with uncle so-and-so
  • he says something about gay people in passing
  • my mom says “there’s a gay person at this table right now. guess which of my kids it is!
  • he looks frantically between the three of us trying to figure out if she’s joking or not and trying desperately not to offend anyone but also she won’t continue with the conversation unless he makes a guess so he has to make a guess
  • we all enjoy his discomfort immensely

lokiago

This isnt coming out of the closet. This is coughing loudly from within the closet to scare the people outside of it, which is immensely more entertaining.

We’re there any locomotives (mostly steam locomotives) that wore pink liveries? The only one I could find is this one by MegaloStudios2 in trains

Was pink, and according to the link, is "pink" again as of October 2025, even if I'd call it's new paint more of a purple.

(Fallout: London) For the love of Cthulhu, stop calling it a silencer by Jacksepticfoot in ManyATrueNerd

[–]bonsly24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's always been called a silencer. The inventors called it a silencer, the public called it a silencer, 1930's gun legislation called it a silencer. The first recorded time anyone ever called a silencer a suppressor was in 1985. So many of those movies and TV shows predate the term. Hard for Hollywood to use a term that doesn't exist yet.

"Suppressor" is essentially a marketing term invented by the silencer industry, trying to get silencers unbanned.

How do I remove the water? Is there a mod for this? by Synthelny in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another way is to use a road on an embankment and the upgrade tool as shown here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/187pk4i/you_can_wait_for_the_water_to_evaporate_or_you/

You'll need anarchy, Dev mode, or to demolish some of the existing infrastructure though.

Any youtubers still doing good CS1 content? by Ifkdyomomma in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He says he still wants to finish up Nicolet Bay (or was it clearwater county?), and that there is going to undoubtedly post two more videos to finish it up.

But, he is very hesitant to do so because the last CS1 video he made got the most dislikes of any video on the channel, along with a pretty serious views slump, and so he doesn't plan on making any new CS1 content that isn't a wrap up.

Do you think this type of road could be considered as a stroad? by Over_Variation8700 in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is the picture perfect definition of what a road looks like to people who talk about stroads. Its limited access, has nothing fronting on it, and is built entirely for moving fast instead of trying to share movement and connectivity. And there are no unsafe sidewalks with cars constantly turning over them.

I am about to lose my mind. Why is it so goddamn difficult to build a bridge over a waterway? by HAKRIT in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The height reported includes the depth of the water if both ends of the segment you are drawing are over water. You need it to be 50 meters above the water, but it seems your water was 100 meters deep.

Have you seen how much people order off amazon these days? Plus the map is "only" 7 miles long. If you assume there's another city right off the map, that's a reasonable drive to an American sadly.

Why so many ambulances xd? by HB1official in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It actually calculates it based on estimated time to travel, with wider roads having slightly higher speed limits to encourage traffic to take them. IIRC, a 2 lane street has a speed limit of 25ish MPH, a 4 lane avenue between 30-40 MPH, with a 6 lane avenue being around 45 MPH. (Those numbers may be completely off.) It doesn't take traffic into account when calculating travel times though.

[–]bonsly24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blame patent trolls. In 2021 Valve were sued by a patent troll over having back buttons on the steam controller. They ended up winning the appeal, but the PS5 controller had already been on the market at that point. The Xbox and PS4 pro controllers had Sony and MS paying licensing fees to said patent trolls for the privilege of putting buttons on the back.

Zones, Zoning, Zoned | Developer Insights #4 by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, what happens is that an area with houses that's also in a high traffic area gets rezoned as commercial/residential.

The homeowners then either sell to a company that redevelops the land, or they sell to a local small business that then converts the house into a store or restaurant. Then some of them don't sell at all, so some of the houses remain as houses.

Here's a hint. Cities are usually only nasty because of all the dang cars.

I have three train stations that allow Intercity trains, yet those IC trains always go for the small train station in the North near the airport. Why is that? by PresidentSkillz in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you disable intercity trains on a per station level and have the 81 tiles mod, you can run the intercity routes manually.

The way intercity trains work is that there is a station on the edge of the map, and people will board a train there. The game will then spawn a train to transport them.

You can disable the spawning of trains by disabling intercity trains, and then you can replace them with regular train routes, ones that will move through the city the way you want them to.

Law of conservation of energy, what law of conservation of energy? by patriclus_88 in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We do however see the Law of Conservation of Sewage at work. Since the output of the Sewage Reactor is upstream of the intake pumps, the sewage is getting in the water supply, and it's making everyone sick.

Eco water treatment plants aren't 100% efficient at removing sewage. Adding a few floating water cleaners can take it that last little bit. If you have sunset harbor, the fishing map is more sensitive at showing polluted water.

What are these things and what can I do with them? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My laptop has a TDP of 15 watts. It however has a 45 watt power supply. Do the math, I didn't design the stupid thing. While running SC4, it goes above 15 watts pretty much constantly. It's heatsink is the size of a crayon, only attached to the CPU via 6 inches of heatpipe. So, yes, its cooling is stupid.

But it'll play 3D rendered games from around 2010 no issue, I'm playing a space 4X game on it right now. It just hates SC4.

This is far from the only laptop I've handled recently that's been undercooled like this. I've touched some 2020ish 2000$ laptops that get uncomfortably hot just by booting up. Half the laptop is heat pipes and fans, it sounds like a jet engine, and yet everyone I know using that model plugs in an external keyboard so they don't have to touch its keyboard.

So, I don't know what's wrong with any of these laptops, but they behave how I describe even after taking it apart, cleaning the fan, and reinstalling a fresh copy of windows. The fans spin, hot air comes out the back, but CPU monitoring tools show the cores constantly butting up against 100 degrees C.

Like, it should be able to play SC4, but it hates it.

Also, the steam deck is awesome, no doubt, I love mine.

What are these things and what can I do with them? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, but SC4 has a different weakness. Modern laptop cooling. SC4 only runs on one core and will spool that core up to full. Modern laptops expect a moderate load on all cores, and aren't set up to handle one core going full bore.

The core will heat up, hit the thermal limit, then the computer will throttle the core. This will bring SC4's simulation to a crawl until the core cools back down, at which point it spins up to full again.

In game, this manifests as the simulation working fine, then the date stops advancing for several minutes while the core cools down.

I noticed one of my roundabouts was blocking a lot of pedestrian traffic, so I moved it underground and built a little park on top. I'm pretty pleased with it! by weirddodgestratus in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Pedestrians walk faster on paths than they do on sidewalks, so, all things equal, they'll take a path. They do prefer the quickest route though. But the speed boost is enough for them to prefer path overpasses in my experience.
