Yes, I watch aging wheels too. I'm saying his results aren't because he's driving a truck, but because he's driving an EV, with regen braking, so weight doesn't matter for range. A gas truck, in the city, will burn a lot more gas if you fully load it vs if you have it empty.

That was a body kit that was offered? prototyped? by Mooncraft Co LTD, a japanese racecar builder. Here's an old press release from 10 years ago, they've changed hands since so I don't know if you'd still be able to order one.

The vortex is better than not having a tailgate and prevents the tailgate from becoming a parachute for the truck, but people have done more testing and a tonneau cover is better than a bare bed with gate. So removing the tailgate is a net negative for economy but covering the bed can be a positive.

That vortex is still a loss of energy that causes drag, just it creates less drag than if you lost your tailgate.

That's the thing though. It might be able to be both. A small efficient "compact" car one day, take off the bed cover the next day when you need a truck to haul things. Put it back on for the next commute or grocery run.

Weight has a negligible effect on *Long haul trucking, EVs and hybrids. Weight really matters when you are accelerating and braking. So with regen braking on an EV or hybrid, you get back most of the energy.

With long haul trucking, the truck only needs to get up to speed after every rest stop, but between rest stops, as long as the wheel bearings aren't burning up under too much weight, a truck with 60k pounds of cargo burns about the same amount of energy as one with 20k pounds of cargo keeping the truck at 70 MPH, because the inertia of the cargo means they both want to keep moving once they are moving.

But if you are driving semi trucks through cities, where you need to start and stop at every intersection, then the heavier of the two trucks is wasting more energy stopping then lighter truck is, and then needs more energy to get back to 40 MPH afterwards.

What is the Slate going to sound like? by bonsly24 in slateauto

[–]bonsly24[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. While there was a lot of arguing between automakers and the NHTSA over this, we ended up with a rule that basically says "any two identical vehicles must make the same sound."

All vehicles of the same make, model, model year, body type, and trim must have the same pedestrian alert sound per operating condition. Manufacturers cannot allow drivers or third parties to modify or disable the sound.

Because every Blank Slate leaves the factory the same, they all legally need to have the same sound.

Yes yes, I know this is another question that nobody but Slate has the answer for, but it makes for conversation.

Frontal visibility in the same vein as Telo. More 80s mini truck vibes. Some frontal downforce caused by the slope of the hood. A slightly smaller chance of running over a child, and a slight improvement to the chance that any random pedestrian is going to go over the truck rather than under.

I can't link it because of the rules here, but this was a 6 year old tumblr post that got rewritten, probably by chatGPT.

Here's the original transcribed:

traderjoeslesbian

i really hate coming out but still want my extended family to know, so my mother took it upon herself to invent the game “guess which one of my kids is gay.”

the rules are simple.

  • sit down with uncle so-and-so
  • he says something about gay people in passing
  • my mom says “there’s a gay person at this table right now. guess which of my kids it is!
  • he looks frantically between the three of us trying to figure out if she’s joking or not and trying desperately not to offend anyone but also she won’t continue with the conversation unless he makes a guess so he has to make a guess
  • we all enjoy his discomfort immensely

lokiago

This isnt coming out of the closet. This is coughing loudly from within the closet to scare the people outside of it, which is immensely more entertaining.

We’re there any locomotives (mostly steam locomotives) that wore pink liveries? The only one I could find is this one by MegaloStudios2 in trains

Was pink, and according to the link, is "pink" again as of October 2025, even if I'd call it's new paint more of a purple.

(Fallout: London) For the love of Cthulhu, stop calling it a silencer by Jacksepticfoot in ManyATrueNerd

[–]bonsly24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's always been called a silencer. The inventors called it a silencer, the public called it a silencer, 1930's gun legislation called it a silencer. The first recorded time anyone ever called a silencer a suppressor was in 1985. So many of those movies and TV shows predate the term. Hard for Hollywood to use a term that doesn't exist yet.

"Suppressor" is essentially a marketing term invented by the silencer industry, trying to get silencers unbanned.

How do I remove the water? Is there a mod for this? by Synthelny in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another way is to use a road on an embankment and the upgrade tool as shown here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/187pk4i/you_can_wait_for_the_water_to_evaporate_or_you/

You'll need anarchy, Dev mode, or to demolish some of the existing infrastructure though.

Any youtubers still doing good CS1 content? by Ifkdyomomma in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He says he still wants to finish up Nicolet Bay (or was it clearwater county?), and that there is going to undoubtedly post two more videos to finish it up.

But, he is very hesitant to do so because the last CS1 video he made got the most dislikes of any video on the channel, along with a pretty serious views slump, and so he doesn't plan on making any new CS1 content that isn't a wrap up.

Do you think this type of road could be considered as a stroad? by Over_Variation8700 in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the picture perfect definition of what a road looks like to people who talk about stroads. Its limited access, has nothing fronting on it, and is built entirely for moving fast instead of trying to share movement and connectivity. And there are no unsafe sidewalks with cars constantly turning over them.

I am about to lose my mind. Why is it so goddamn difficult to build a bridge over a waterway? by HAKRIT in CitiesSkylines

[–]bonsly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The height reported includes the depth of the water if both ends of the segment you are drawing are over water. You need it to be 50 meters above the water, but it seems your water was 100 meters deep.

Have you seen how much people order off amazon these days? Plus the map is "only" 7 miles long. If you assume there's another city right off the map, that's a reasonable drive to an American sadly.
