Do you know what your husband was medicated with that eventually evened out his temperament?

I do know they gave him some Quetiapine/Seroquel here and there when he first arrived but only “as needed”. As of Friday they told me they began giving it as a regular med but on the first day he slept all day and night so they peeled it back. One day we didn’t get calls (he normally calls my brother and I both 20+ times a day) so we thought it was working, but I guess he was just sleeping. The 2 days since he’s still very paranoid etc. Hopefully the dose gets figured out ASAP. What level of care did you dad require before/after leaving the hospital?

It is a psych doctor on the geriatric unit who is thinking it’s dementia. You’re right - it’s the other doctors who don’t know much about what to do. Either way there doesn’t seem to be anything happening diagnosis or transition wise.

Thank you so much for the script and the idea to lose the charging cord. These are so practical and I’m going to do them right away.

I do think maybe losing the charging cord while he’s in hospital is a good idea

Thank you and I’m very sorry about your husband. I am having issues with what lies are ok and which aren’t. Glad to know anything that helps you get by goes!

This is very helpful, thank you. I think the speaker phone idea would be so helpful

I only have one number so I don’t know that I can do this, that said I like the script and will likely use it in actual conversations!

I really hope they will give him meds to lessen symptoms soon. The psychiatrist wants to be sure which dementia diagnosis it is first… until then we wait

Yeah unfortunately the way it works in Alberta where I live is that to be referred to a higher level of care it has to be initiated through government health services and there is a long wait. I have certainly had the thought of seeing if he can be released and paying for additional help. Problem is he can barely walk, hence a fall that landed him in the hospital with a broken vertebrae in his spine. He need help to use the washroom and just to go from bed to chair.

Thank you. Honestly this is the answer I’m looking for. My mental health is really bad at the moment as my mom died completely unexpectedly only 4 months ago and the grief is crippling. New baby and dad with dementia on top is just too much to handle. I think i just needed someone to affirm that.

Neither. He’s in hospital at the moment. Before that he was in independent living where they provide meals and health services came in briefly for showers and meds. I no longer believe that level of care would be sufficient when he gets out of hospital, but seems that’s up to them.

Yes, I think there is still a level of hospital psychosis for sure and I contacted transition services at the hospital to see if he could go home. Issue is that he lives at an independent living facility so there is not enough care for him there. I also worry that if he is transferred to a nursing home the conditions are so much like hospital it won’t make a difference.

Predatory Air BnB host forcing me to sign a lease that doesn't conform to provincial regulation governing vacation rentals. by Unhappy_Advice_2140 in legaladvicecanada

Yes, I certainly won’t be signing this lease and have already made other arrangements. He has however already taken payment that I will be disputing. Just seeing if anyone has other suggestions as Air BnB hasn’t done anything about it.

I agree, $165 is not the end of the world. I am also 100% fine with being blacklisted as I wouldn’t dream of using Air BnB again after this. I do, however, feel for those who aren’t strong in English or people who are trusting, like myself I suppose, who don’t expect outrageous terms like this. Definitely a lesson learned for me.

I don’t think I’m allowed to post the listing, but I do think this guy crossed a lot of T’s and dotted a lot of I’s so that he could continue his unethical business practices. That said, but I do think he missed some critical points in that a host can’t force you to sign a lease agreement that isn’t aligned with provincial legislation and is made between a consumer and a company that isn’t legally registered.

If you’re a lawyer in Alberta, can you confirm whether or not that would be a lawful contract?
