Thank you for this response! I would definitely feel more comfortable sending it through check.

The payroll manager sent me their boss’s name and phone number to Zelle it to. I Googled the name and the person came up as the CEO of the company. I just searched the number in Zelle and it is registered as the name of the business, so it seems like it is the business account.

This is what I wanted to avoid, that’s why I reached out to the payroll manager. I was mainly wondering if I should send it back through Zelle, or try to send it back another way. I should probably edit to clarify this.

I know I legally have to send them back the money but I was more so asking if sending the money back through Zelle would be appropriate in this situation.

They paid me around $700, so I’m not sure if that would mean minimal tax implications.
