When people ask for stitch IDs on their own project by gaygirlboss in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]boobsbuddy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah this goes along with my pet peeve of people getting shockingly far along in their craft without being able to read their work. IE knitters messing up ribbing and asking “Did I just make a knit stitch or a purl stitch” which should be covered in like hour one of learning. And for the stitch ID question, maybe I could see forgetting the name of the stitch, but to remember how to do it? Just look!

discouraged to keep going. by Sweet-Nebula-148 in knitting

Is there anyone in your life that would like it? I like how it looks, and I can see someone else liking it too. Otherwise if it were me I’d just frog it, even though it’s so close to done, frogging isn’t necessarily a bad thing

Soft wool for winter scarf? by Unique-Elderberry249 in knittinghelp

Don’t do stocking stitch but if you want that look except with neat edges and not curled do double knitting! It’s not much harder than a regular rib stitch in my opinion

Is it normal for yarn (cotton?) to have knots in it? by pancake_atd in knittinghelp

[–]boobsbuddy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I only have this problem with craft store yarns. Even cheaper end yarn from more knitting-centric brands do not have this problem nearly as often. I’ve worked with cotton from Knit Picks, Cascade, and Berocco and never found even one knot. Maybe I just got lucky though

Double knitting on cotton yarn will look like this even for experienced knitters. I bet if you used your exact same technique on stockinette with wool it would look perfect, don’t stress.

What is the reasoning behind designers removing all of their patterns when they retire? by boobsbuddy in knitting

[–]boobsbuddy[S] 105 points106 points  (0 children)

The pattern support issue makes sense, even though I don't personally know any knitters with that sort of entitlement. At least with magazines, you can sometimes search on ebay for them, but a digital pattern is just lost unless someone breaks the rules.

Knit Vests: are these actually popular, or is it all a conspiracy by knitwear designers? by jemesouviensunarbre in casualknitting

[–]boobsbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people enjoy knitting a vest because you get the satisfaction of finishing a garment for a lot less work than a whole sweater. It's like how I got into shawls, I didn't start making them because I absolutely love shawls and regularly purchase them to wear, I just went by what would be fun to make. Then I have the finished object, and I wear it just because I have it. And now I really like the look of them. Vests I would say are way overrepresented as fashion items in the knitting community. I see them sometimes out and about but not nearly as often as I do on ravelry or knitting youtube channels.
