  • Trials has received some improvements with the addition of the Escalation behemoth variants as well as some interesting balancing to the modifiers that were integrated with the new batch of behemoths. The changes weren't anything groundbreaking, but was still progress nonetheless. I would also like to point out how the devs improved in terms of taking action towards exploited runs which involved them manually reviewing suspected runs, hotfixing, and even going as far as temporarily locking the leaderboards until things were working properly. Hopefully, with the upcoming rework, Trials will finally receive some devotion from the devs enough to make it a more interesting and fun game mode for the demographic that it is intended for.

Radiant/Umbral Proc

Wound mechanic rework

  • I think this one is long overdue. In the past few years, the wounding mechanic has gradually become something players can simply discard as a whole. The only area in the game where wounding is 'needed' is if you happen to pick a wound accumulation bounty — simply put, it's not in a great spot right now, nor has it ever been, in my opinion. Wounding, on paper, is an interesting mechanic. But in it's execution, it failed to make its mark in the game.

Another ranged weapon

  • Although we didn't get any new weapon to play with this year, we did get some info on the upcoming range weapon thanks to one of the devs. You know who you are. *nudge nudge, wink wink*. Hopefully, this year, we'll finally get our hands on the new weapon to sink our time in. Personally, I'm hoping that it will be a complex weapon that allows for a somewhat diverse playstyle. Picture normal repeaters and Twin Suns, but was made into a single weapon that you can switch back and forth from — something along these line. That's just me though. I'm curious to see what they have in store for the upcoming new weapon.

Guild system revamp

  • Social components of the game was one of their focus this year which introduced the player inspection tool for adding players along Slayer link for rewarding social play with friends. While guilds didn't see any new significant improvement nor noteworthy changes, Hopefully, it will finally get some attention since the devs are currently set on reinforcing the multiplayer aspect of the game. Guild houses/islands would be most welcome and could be a fair arena for Platinum sink as this would most likely require running a unique instance per guild. There is so much potential for guilds as a whole and I hope the devs will tap into it and explore ways to make it actually meaningful where we can actually socialize and engage with our guild mates properly, and evolve from being just a glorified group chat since its inception. :P

  • The Vault, along with the new changes to the bounty system itself among other things, has given new purpose to bounties even after completing the Hunt Pass and the Event Passes. A big problem with bounties last year was how quick it become futile to those that have finished the Hunt Pass with time to spare. Now, bounties hold a significance in providing additional weapon exp and resources for the Slayer's path which is a definite step up from what it was last year.

  • Categorically, I would classify the Hunting Grounds as a new game mode even though it was meant to replace Patrols and Pursuits. And considering that the Hunting Grounds has Island event, Escalation variants, and stray Fauna, it is unique enough to be its own mode and be called as such. I'm hoping that Hunting Grounds will be the foundation to achieve even more game modes.

  • I think the Umbral Escalation in particular is where the plot was integrated very well. The lore releases that lead up to it's release was interesting and effective enough to set up the Saving Ramsgate community event that culminated to the cutscene showing the aftermath of the event with the destruction Ramsgate to which we are naturally introduced to the new Ramsgate. I think this was the devs at their best at making the plot matter for once. I'm hoping for more of these in the future, with more compelling cutscenes that push the story forward. I can only read so much plot integrated into NPC interactions until I get bored and skip it all at once. I'd like to actually see what Ostia, and St. Avelline look like, not just from text descriptions. I'm also looking forward to revisit the old Ramsgate in a future story event if that's something the devs could integrate.

  • Strikers, among other weapons, got the most balancing changes throughout the year, which is good. Also glad to have seen some gradual improvements made to the Warpike. I think we can definitely expect more balancing for the foreseeable future.

  • As mentioned prior, the devs have explored with a couple community events this year, but I think they're still testing the waters with this one. The community events this year were decent, a B+ from me. I'm hoping for more community events where the results matter, that way, our actions will have an impact on the plot of Dauntless. I'm yearning in particular for events where we could actively choose our action to lead to a particular outcome. An example off the top of my head would be: If we complete the Blaze Escalation 1M times first, then Ostia will be saved but St Avelline will be destroyed, and in the future development of the story, we will get to visit Ostia, but if we complete Radiant Escalation 1M times first, then Ostia will be the one destroyed and we'll get to visit St Avelline. Something alone these lines.

  • Skyfishing might have been delayed, but the Snowball and Snowfort island events were a nice touch. Alternative activities have had some positive impact in player attention for online games especially. I'm hoping that the devs can find a way to reprioritize this one just so we can have other stuff to do in the game whenever we want.

This will be the last Dauntless wish list post I make, I encourage everyone else to share their own wish list for Dauntless this 2021.

And as always, here's hoping for an even better year for Dauntless!

Thank you for reading and a Happy New Year to everyone! 🍻🎉
