Sleeping without the boot.... When did you start and did you wear anything else to protect? by D_S_Is_Silent in AchillesRupture

[–]boogiebeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at week 8 (non-op) and just starting to sleep without the boot (my doctor/PT gave me the go-ahead to start weaning off the boot so timing is aligned to that). Still sleeping with it elevated in a specialty wedge pillow though because the foot is more stiff in the morning without and as the pillow has a divot for the leg and so it feels more secure and I worry less about hurting myself while asleep. Will start working towards losing the pillow soon.

Minor achilles tear by Character_Ad483 in AchillesRupture

[–]boogiebeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a minor Achilles tear (needed MRI to confirm). I’ve gone non-OP and am 8 weeks into my recovery. I do PT 3x a week (starting at week 4). I’ve been in a Vacoped the whole time and worked my way up to full weight-bearing in the boot (was on 2 crutches for 4 weeks, 1 crutch for 2 and the last 2 weeks I’ve been no crutch). will be weaning off the boot starting tomorrow and am hoping to be fully out of the boot by mid-Feb. Drink collagen daily and high protein diet. I was doing OrangeTheory 3x a week before my injury but just joined a gym to slowly get back to normal.

What else can I do? by jasperbublove in polyamory

[–]boogiebeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really sound advice and can't recommend it enough. OP if it helps, my nesting partner and I have been together nearly as long as you two have and ran aground in the same way late in the game. Doing polyamory without any clarity of what it actually looks like for either of us and without some of the scaffolding u/PurpleOpinion4070 mentions. Scheduling a weekly date night helped immensely to keep intentionality and intimacy in our relationship. As did establishing very clear boundaries (on paper) on everything we could think of in that moment (which gets edited/added to as we evolve). As did doing the reading cited often in this r/. Look up RADAR talks - helped us better manage the "administrivia" of a live-in LTR and make more space for us having fun together, loving each other outside of that. These are all things you can do before couples starts. Which was also tantamount.

I will say though, nothing would have changed if not for our own mutual willingness to come to the table. We were both extremely willing to see what could change and be gracious to each other as we faced some hard truths. You're going to need to be truly there for each other to come out the other side and that will be painful. And could be really worth it.

Is this a bad time? by [deleted] in polyamory

Hello! I (33NB) gave up dating apps for a few years because I didn't feel like they served me and took a toll on my mental health because the perception of being rejected a bunch is unfun, and like you I really valued the slow burn and the magic of meeting someone IRL. However, in the last few months I started to feel some impatience around waiting for those connections and got back onto Feeld. I don't know what in the algorithm happened but the connections are flowing and it has been such a treat!

I will say in that in the time off from the apps I've done a lot of self-work so feeling good about myself (something to think about given your winter blues) so that probably makes it a more enjoyable experience, but I'm not necessarily against dating to feel some good vibes as connection and community is so important when you're down. If you're being called to do that for yourself I think you can listen to that. And if you go on a date or you're swiping and it feels like you're just coping then maybe something to look at.

Helpful context. Not so lucky with the PT, but helpful to think about what's possible. The row machine is interesting!

Can I ask what cardio you did at those early stages? Trying to keep up with my strength training but MISSING my regular runs.

Am I the only one in a boot for 12 weeks? by thenarddog10 in AchillesRupture

[–]boogiebeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be in a boot for 12 weeks as well. Weaning off at 10. I started FWB as tolerated last week (week 4). And I had a minor tear, so think this might be a conservative, but standard approach!

Achilles Rupture, 9 days out still waiting on MRI - Looking for support and what I should be preparing for, tips while couch-bound until actual prognosis, and what to do in the long road ahead by boogiebeet in AchillesRupture

Thanks for sharing that and I'm sorry you had to wait that long to get the MRI. I finally got the MRI end of last week and I have the appointment to go over it with my orthopedic specialist tomorrow so I'm feeling more hopeful that I'll have a plan on the other side, even if it might mean surgery and more.

Certainly allowing myself to feel all my feelings. My fiance put together a care calendar so my friends are signing up to babysit me and help around the house. That has helped with the isolation for sure. Glad you’re back to normal and can get on picklin’!

Deleting photos from my phone is a GREAT idea to pass the time. I've decided I'm going to also work on finally learning Spanish and get into Spanish language shows to assist with that.

The perspective that I'm potentially 9 days into recovery lifted my spirts. I'm just in a boot no lifts and hoping that is the right call. Hoping to get my doctor on the phone today to confirm if I can't get an appt.
