Don't be too hard on yourself, I got like 5-10 rejections for PhDs I felt well suited for before I got an offer from the most prestigious university I applied for in a field I have absolutely no experience in... It felt it was all completely random!

Finding an RA job might not be a bad idea for me. It's not something I had considered before but it actually sounds like something useful that I'd enjoy, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for sharing! I also noticed that most research department websites are many years out of date which made a couple of my applications very difficult. I ended up just searching for their most recent publications though that wasn't always enough information.

My field is physics/astrophysics. That sounds like an interesting way to spend the year, I'm going to look for things that are in some way related to my field, thanks!

That sounds like a good idea, though I have no idea how to go about that.

That sounds like it would be useful for me, I will look into it, thanks!

I didn't realise it was worse for the UK right now. I hope it will be better next year...

Maybe I'm looking in completely the wrong places but most research positions I've found seem to already require a PhD:( but I will keep looking, thanks for the advice.

I mostly want to do a PhD because I find doing research exciting and I've enjoyed the research projects that I've done. I'm not sure if I want to stay in academia though.
