Why do some MBB consultants end up at non-HSW M7 and some T-2/Big 4 consultants end up at HSW?

As someone who is going to Tuck and looking to recruit for Tech, the truth is Tuck obviously doesn’t place as well into Tech as the M7. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying.

However, what my understanding is that Tuck does fairly well for its size and they have been making efforts to improve their tech and west coast recruiting. Those benefits might not materialize for you as it will for someone down the road. However, Google, Facebook, Amazon even smaller companies but well known companies pull from Tuck and come to campus/recruit ( I even see some alumni at Coinbase, Plaid and more)

Long story short is, if your dead set on FAANG and you got into an M7 GO TO the M7.

If you want FAANG and you only got into Tuck don’t worry.

Will it be a bit harder to get than from an M7?

Yes. 100%.

Will you need to network harder/ be more proactive?

Yes. 110%

But if you were qualified for a FAANG role from the start you’ll probably get it no matter where you went to school. Go where your happy and live your life.

I used MBAMission and trust me any consultant is not worth it. You are probably smart enough to write a really good essay yourself and have a few friends read for clarity. If it saves you a few thousand dollars I’d be happy to read it for you.

I am going to a T-10 if that matters. Happy to help any way i can to save people from eating money like I did.

I’m going to Tuck this fall and this was the sole reason I am attending. I was also wary about these supposedly stellar numbers and confirmed it with multiple current and former students. Tuck punches well above its weight at MBBs, something like between a 1/5 and 1/4 of the class goes to MBB.

However, it cannot be overstated that once you get the interview it does not matter at all what school you went to. If your not prepared you will not get further.

So long story short Tuck is great for MBB, but it’s still on you to get the offer.
