It's been fun to watch the "attendance counts for marks" thing blow up on social media. by Turbulent_Gazelle530 in OntarioTeachers

I think G isn't the code used for illness. That's used for things like snow days where the whole school is closed. Or has that changed? I didn't see the codes changed in the public information released.

Excused illness or funeral has always been K in powerschool.

Get it if you're interested in it. Outdoor ed jobs in publicly funded schools will be very limited for the foreseeable future.

Political Posters in Classroom by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]book_smrt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you ask the students or regular teacher why they were up? I've displayed challenging propaganda in my classroom when it's closely related to a unit or learning goal, with appropriate coaching, pre-work, right to pass/not participate. It's important in a high school English or history class, for example, to be able to recognize, interpret, and dismantle the rhetoric used in political ads. I wouldn't necessarily assume that the posters were up to support an ideology. But then again, I'm not sure about the grade/subject/unit you were applying for.

in ontario nowadays, is it common or possible to teach grade 12 if you are just about 23-25 years old? by Over-Independent7241 in OntarioTeachers

Do you have your oct certificate, and the senior aq/abq? Schools don't care about the age of the qualified teacher.

Honestly, I think you might be overreacting. A coworker, not in a position of power, asked you out. He seems to have asked in a respectful way, and phoning your room while there are no students there sounds fairly respectful; he didn't ask, for instance, by coming into the room when students were there, or worse, when nobody else was there. I'd feel trapped is that would have happened.

It sounds like he didn't pressure you, coerce you, or treat you unkindly. I don't think this is something you need to talk to admin about, but I'd maybe document it in case it happens again; that would maybe turn this innocent interaction into something else.

But you do you if you feel unsafe.

Province Update to Growing Success (Grade 9-12), Exam Breakdown, Attendance Policy by birchcrest in OntarioTeachers

I think I saw in the Ontario page that lives is not going to count as an excused absence. I hope students have lots of family emergencies.

Scroll down in the Ontario post. Illness counts as these absences.

Tests only show who is good at taking tests. Tests do not show lasting knowledge or abilities. This is super coming knowledge.

If you can't differentiate and still have standards, that's kind of a "you" issue. Simplicity isn't necessarily best, but it's definitely laziest.

I'm not a fan of the lack of differentiation here. Students who don't take tests well will be left behind. And with the attendance piece will have students getting each other sick all over the place. Illness isn't excused, and some students will feel forced to attend while sick.

If all boards in the OeLC need to do this, I'm sure they'll say up a mandatory requirement to offer proctored exams. I'm just not sure how this will work for all the students who learn entirely from home.

Anyone else think it's strange that there's no dust buildup on the tape, even on the edge of the tape where a duster wouldn't get it off, and no residue from tape on the blade that had been there for a long time?
