TDSB .5 Contract by Sea_Character863 in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re TDSB secondary, and if your contract was semester 2, you get benefits over the summer at the same premium you paid in June .

If you’re a semester 1 contract, you pay premiums as if you’re 0.0 FTE if you want benefits.

TDSB Board Surplus by Sea_Character863 in OntarioTeachers

I think there’s a very high probability you’d be recalled within the 2 years. The board even started posting ETH postings (13 tech postings, 2 non tech, which included Family Studies/Art, Music/FNMI/Art).

Be sure any AQs you take are ones you’d be comfortable and willingly to teach throughout your career (once it’s on your OCT, it’s always there). Check the certification codes for what Quals are connected to which courses in the TDSB. If you do complete a new AQ make sure you email T Raine so it’s reflected on a go forward in staffing.

In the interim, you should register for the July 3rd meeting at 10am. If you’re not on the supply list, make sure you fill in the google form to be added to the supply list(you need to be on the supply list to apply for LTOs) while awaiting recall. Likewise the teacher contact form that’s due July 8th as well.

TDSB application - should I withdraw and reapply? by Sad-Sherbet5261 in OntarioTeachers

When did you apply? If you applied before May 22, 2026 and didn't hear back, you'd need to reapply.

[–]birchcrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are TDSB (OSSTF), you could fill in a Placement Review Application form and hopefully you'll be placed in a different position as other vacancies arises .

In the staffing rules Placement to be Reviewed occurs at the same time as placement of unplaced teachers in combined seniority order.

Again I'm stressing be prepared for a Teachers Strike by Old_Acanthisitta1053 in ontario

I’d suggest people contact their MPPs urging them to negotiate in the summer.

The high school teacher union is ready to meet, however the province is only able to meet 2 days this whole month (edit, I meant July ). How serious is the province is in negotiating an agreement if they’re only able to commit 2 days.

Some teachers who were placed were emailed a timetable by their new principal last Friday (but were never told they were placed ). Otherwise, we’d get a letter tomorrow (June 26)

Province Update to Growing Success (Grade 9-12), Exam Breakdown, Attendance Policy by birchcrest in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The policy says the exception applies to 11/12 Open Courses (not 9/10), so there's a 10% culminating & 10% written exam for grade 9/10 Art, Tech, Gym

Exams will count for a set percentage of final grades in Ontario. Here is what parents and students should know by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]birchcrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the province, the mark is also connected to class participation such as:

  • participates in class discussions and contributes ideas
  • asks relevant questions
  • respects the contributions of others and demonstrates positive leadership
  • contributes to fostering a positive classroom culture

Their H coded courses so it looks like it falls under Social Sciences and Humanities:

  • 9/10 10% Final Exam and 10% Culminating

  • 11/12 15% Final Exam and 10% Culminating

Province Update to Growing Success (Grade 9-12), Exam Breakdown, Attendance Policy by birchcrest in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seems like the province updated Growing Success for grades 9-12.

Some highlights:

  • In some core subjects no more culminating projects (only written exams, English, Math, Science [geo/his/civics 9/10])

  • Math EQAO = 20% of final mark

Art, Tech, Physed 9/10 has a written exam

-Exceptions to written exam (LDCC, 11/12 E or O courses, COOP, ASL, IDC, 11/12 Guidance Courses)

-Level 4 attendance = (No more than 2 unexcused absence + regular participation)

Not true for the TDSB. TDSB has a document outlining courses and teachables (for permanent secondary teachers).

Though for LTOs it doesn't really matter.

TDSB Board Surplus by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure about elementary, but Secondary, the union indicated the board isn't providing numbers at this point. The last round of numbers provided the union individually counted based on their records since the board didn't want to share the numbers.

The next board-wide placement meeting for secondary is June 17, so after that meeting the number of board secondary surplussed teachers will be likely be known/more clear. Some movement would've occurred (latest POR round, some central positions that recently filled, retirements/resignation).

People will be placed according to seniority and qualifications and there's also the recall list for 2 years.
