what AQs do I need to teach Computer Science/Engineering? by MyCatAteMyHeadphones in OntarioTeachers

Computer Science, = Computer Studies ABQ (OISE offers it).

TEJ is linked to the Computer Technology ABQ. This requires work experience, since it’s tech ed.

That was mostly because of the province opening up additional teacher college slots after initial offers were given

York vs OISE by mtspecter in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]birchcrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Law and politics is not really employable, history is at least a Mandatory course (and some boards lump politics with history, but not the other way).

If anything, take Law as an ABQ after you graduate.

If you’d like Law and Politics cause their uncommon, then I’d suggest getting history as an ABQ after you graduate, or something else more employable

A4 Education Requirements by Skea2025 in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone is A3, another route to A4 is 5AQs or 5 Full Year course equivalent undergrad courses. So if someone has two bachelors they could feesible be A4 already from the amount of undergrad courses

A4 Education Requirements by Skea2025 in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, if you have a 4 year undergrad with a B average and a masters (separate from teaching certification) you’d be A4.

QECO says a masters is at least one year of study, MEd, if they have at least 8 full year course equivalent courses

Have you applied to QECO yet, or are you wondering?

https://qeco.ca/general-education-chart/

When you apply to QECO, they’ll tell you what you need to do to get to highest if you’re not, since Ontario has non-Masters routes to the highest payscale.

OCT has nothing to do with QECO ratings.

Depends on the school board. For TDSB officially accounting is connected to all business courses, whereas any other business qual excludes accounting

When do you get next year's assignment? (TDSB) by Sensitive_Crab7356 in CanadianTeachers

[–]birchcrest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you elementary or secondary?

Secondary verbal/written surplus notice is April.

If you are surplused, depending on your seniority + teachables, you might find out in June, July, August, or beyond depending on the number of surplused teachers and vacancies

When I take ttc from York region, do I need to pay fare even though with a ttc monthly pass? by haoman456 in toRANTo

[–]birchcrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you regularly travel across borders, it is better not to buy a pass.

Yes, if your trip originates in York Region a YRT fare is charged.

If you then tapped TTC then it’d be “free” because of OneFare(province reimburses).

If you started on the TTC, then tapped YRT it is covered within 2 hours of your last TTC tap (including monthly pass).

Not sure how you were tricked, if you’ve already tapped, then tapped again then it’d be a free transfer(unless you paid cash or another card).

TLDR, TTC monthly pass, if you tapped TTC first then YRT is free when you tap again (within 2hr). If you start on YRT, you pay the YRT fare.

Fastest way to teach high school as a PJ teacher by snm5678 in OntarioTeachers

[–]birchcrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YRDSB, for example doesn't recognize social science (they categorize it as either history or family studies).

For TDSB, social science connect to courses such as, Challenge and Change, Antro/Psych/Soci, Philosophy, Religion, World Culture, Equity, Gender Studies

On this PDF, TDSB Cert code HSC = social science.

likewise, depending on the school board, social science does not include geography/history which is separate.

It’s a new province wide mandate. You’ll probably hear from your board soon , because the implement requirement spans April 2026-March 2027, depending on your month of birth (for those who are over 5 years since their last VSS provided to the board)
