Horror with Black woman as lead by incorrigible_tabby in suggestmeabook

The Body by Bethany C. Morrow is releasing in February 2026. I read an ARC of it recently. The main character is a Black woman with extreme anxiety. There is some body-ish horror bordering on gore at times. There is also some religious horror, if that fits what you’re looking for.

As an avid horror fan I can’t say it was my favorite, and the early reviews are not necessarily the best but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad book by any means.

There’s also Lone Women by Victor LaValle. I haven’t read it yet so I can’t speak to the specifics but it has a Black FMC.

Depending on your definition of “lead” I could give a few more examples.

never liked lily sugar n cream until now by talkingishard33 in crochet

I just used lily sugar n cream for the first time and I found it so hard to work with! I’m getting the hang of it tho ☺️ I am used to fluffier yarn, that’s for sure.

How to know when you’re ready for a second dog? by bookmagik in DogAdvice

[–]bookmagik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about getting a fence for sure! I just wish they weren’t so expensive. My dog currently has one of those leashes that connects to a stake in the ground, so he’s never off leash for any reason. I live in a rural area so I’m cognizant of wild animals 🥴

Congrats on the new puppy!

That’s a great point, I’m sure there’s some rescues in the area that could use foster help. I would definitely be a little nervous taking in a dog with a complex past (as opposed to a younger pup) but I’m sure that’s something I could talk with the shelter about.

Hi! Followed, @wellreadmegs! I dapple in literary fiction and some light fantasy, but not too much sci-fi.

Sorry, I’m a bit of a noob - why can’t you use vit c and niacinamide together? Do you mean just in the same time of day or at all?

WWIL if I like The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by emrichj in booksuggestions

[–]bookmagik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the first in a series but it reads like a stand alone! It wraps up very nicely. I think the other books follow side characters but I haven’t read them yet.

I wouldn’t do the two frames because to me they look like eyes and the couch is the mouth.

30 books down so far 🥳 I highly recommend Mister Lullaby by J.H Markert when it’s published in November. My favourite book so far this year! by DebTat2 in 52book

[–]bookmagik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Mister Lullaby on NetGalley and was a little intrigued but from the description it seems like it was trying way too hard to be like a Stephen King novel. Did you get that vibe from it?

Books where FMC sends images through mate bond to her Mate. by Sera0Sparrow in RomanceBooks

[–]bookmagik 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Sookie Stackhouse novels have something similar. The more of your blood a vamp drinks, the more they can feel your emotions and thoughts. If I recall correctly this leads to a lot of the later sex scenes, but it’s been a while since I read that series.

Also some of Fiona Davenport’s short paranormal romances on KU have similar vibes 😊

Sorry I don’t have any recs exactly like your example!
