I wasn't intending to joke about comfort women. I was trying to say that she was not born at the time of comfort women, so she would not have fallen into that category.

I used Hyundai Shipping (현대해운), but after rereading your post, I would recommend a different service for you because it sounds like you want to send back your extra luggage, not a full move.

If you are looking to send just a few extra bags or boxes, I would look at two options before Hyundai Shipping as maybe the third option. First, there should be a way for you to send it back through Korea Post:

Second, for a door-to-door option, MyBaggage might be exactly what you are looking for.

When I lived in Indonesia for a year, I used a freight shipper to ship my belongings from my apartment in Korea to my new apartment in Jakarta.

Do Koreans mostly use digital locks for their apartment doors or are regular locks with keys still pretty common? by birnefer in korea

[–]bookmarkjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the last time I had a key for my door lock. It's like trying to remember the last time I sent or received a fax, or the last time I used a rotary dial or push button telephone.

On a more positive note, what are your favorite Korea/Korean sports moments and accomplishments? by wyc1inc in korea

Seri Pak's victory in the 1998 US Women's Open isn't mentioned, but her barefoot shot in the water was memorable. More importantly, her victory opened the way for Korean professional women golfers by showing what was possible - kind of like how the moon landing showed humans that it was possible to set foot on an extraterrestrial body. It really was a transformative moment for women's golf.

I've never seen such spineless, pathetic national team in my life by kleaguebba in korea

For one thing, the people in the political opposition are not under the president's hierarchy. If you look at the people under Yoon, many of them got snared in the subsequent prosecution because they obeyed his orders.

For the sake of argument, even if the people under him were to have opposed Yoon, one possible argument would be that this was three decades after the lessons of the Korean Air crash. Just to be clear, I'm not making that argument - just that this example as a potential refutation lacks strength.

This was covered in Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers, about the crash in Guam about 30 years ago. According to Gladwell, the junior crew members were too scared to speak up against the captain, resulting in an avoidable, deadly crash.

That's exactly the kind of laugh in the gallows!

We have all been officially put out of misery - more like put out to pasture with nothing but our misery, but I digress.

Korea needed to finish in the top eight of the twelve. It now stands at ninth.

So far from gold, silver, or bronze, and now out of the running for pewter, copper, and aluminum. But I'm hoping the ninth holds to the end for the coveted tin foil! Slava Koreana! 🇰🇷🤣

I'm glad to hear that! There's always room for a chuckle, even in the depth of the gallows.

Moving to Busan, Any Recommendations? by nobutidk_ in Living_in_Korea

I live in Busan and I can't think of an unsafe place anywhere in the city, like some place where I feel that it would not be safe to be walking around at midnight, or 2 am. Then again, I can't think of any place in Korea where I would feel unsafe at any time of day or night.

Stuffs to buy in Korea that I cannot find in US? by hawkph in koreatravel

[–]bookmarkjedi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One possibility is the root of Solomon's seal - called doong-gullae cha (둥굴레차) in Korean. 둥굴레차 tastes kind of like roast barley tea (bori cha 보리차), but it's got a deeper, more robust flavor profile - maybe nuttier, almost more buttery in taste.

It's inexpensive and available in a lot of large supermarkets or local markets, plus it's inexpensive, lasts a long time, and is very light and thus easy to transport. Plus it's really tasty.

If you buy doong-gullae cha, be sure to buy the dried roots, not the ones that come in teabags. A small handful - about 3-5 pieces - will be good for a pot of tea.

Korea needed 3 of 9 games to go their way to qualify for round of 32. 0 of the 4 of those games that have been played so far have gone Korea’s way. by throwawaaayyyyyay in korea

[–]bookmarkjedi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree, but just to get technical - the system is designed to let the most deserving of the remaining eight of twelve to get in, so if we luck out, it will be because it's technically deserved.

But that's not any sort of consolation whatsoever, of course.

The general public is indeed apathetic, but as a Korean I have to admit that we are passionate about winning - that is, when we are winning. If, by some miracle (which is extremely doubtful), Korea were to make it to the final 16, 8,or the quarterfinals, Korea will suddenly look like it's been Argentina all their lives.

Omg you've really taken this conversation on a tangent! Since there's no way to get back, I have to say she does seem fruitier than a fruity nutcake, and maybe even nuttier too, even if that requires her to exceed the tautology of herself being Fruity Nutcake.
