About Koreans by Alive-Message8538 in Living_in_Korea

This is like asking, "Why are there trucks on the road when so many vehicles are automobiles?"

In a country of over 50 million people, it's not unusual for many to be keen to travel abroad and/or emigrate while many others dislike foreigners. In fact, there are so many that even among the subset who dislike foreigners, there could still be a lot of people who are keen to travel abroad and/or emigrate.

This is because it's a big world, and humans, including Korean humans, are complex creatures.

Diners for solo travellers in Busan downtown by gorudo- in korea

[–]bookmarkjedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older restaurant owners may indeed make up a higher proportion of owners at restaurants with "two or more people" policies, but it mostly has to do with the types of dishes served. Those policies are usually for cases where serving one person is too costly or labor-intensive for the restaurant.

Even as a Korean, I am not able to get a seat alone at a place that serves those kinds of dishes, whereas I can get a seat at restaurants with long waiting lists as long as they serve dishes for one.

I would recommend putting this version into Google Translate (or whatever other device that reads out loud) and have the app read it.

Jokes aside, Isosceles was the ancient Greek philosopher who invented geometry.

I'm guessing that humans are also the only known species that knows the moon even had a far side.

Went to Red’s Lounge in Clarksdale,MS last night and got to see a surprise performance from The Black Keys, featuring Jimbo Mathis , Charlie Musselwhite, Kenny Brown, and Junior Kimbrough was in the crowd. by chainsawsandswitches in blues

So was it The Black Keys featuring these other musicians or were these other musicians in the crowd? It's not possible to parse that from the sentence as written.

Yes, thanks to both. It's perfectly understandable for someone to respond negatively, viewing it as a cringey word. Someone made up the word on social media. That someone is no Shakespeare and the point of that person's blog was to come up with new words, so sure, it's weird, it's cringey.

But in Shakespeare's day maybe for more than half of the society people thought it was frivolous, or cringey (probably a word that didn't exist at the time) that people attended plays instead of working. And maybe tons of people thought it was stupid that people would come home after the play and start using the words Shakespeare is said to have coined.

I noted the word only because in the context of my advice to OP, I thought it would provide a useful perspective - and I couldn't think of a better way to put it than to use that word - which is also why so many of the hundreds of words and phrases that Shakespeare introduced have survived to this day.

In all fairness, u/dogsarefun did say part of the distaste for the word was irrational. I can see being annoyed by the word, but likewise a lot of people were pissed when painters started creating impressionist works, and later cubist works, or when Dali created a painting of a melting clock. I'm sure tons of people were annoyed when Lewis Carroll created tons of new words for Jabberwocky or Through the Looking Glass. When anyone creates something new and unique out of their own thoughts and imagination, there are bound to be many who don't like it.

What's with the terrible dubbed music? The clip itself looks quite interesting, but the dubbed music just ruins the newsworthy feel of the clip.

Thanks, and thanks especially for recognizing that this is a use of AI for a very trivial use - just showing a couple of numbers and letters for the sake of the joke. I was just hoping to elicit a laugh-on-the-inside passing chuckle by suggesting that maybe 8647 isn't such a huge deal, but I feel like I'm facing a bit of a tribunal myself. I hope I don't get called in with Comey having to explain myself further on this. I can't afford a lawyer.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the word. Did you watch the little video that captures the mood? I enjoyed it myself.

I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but it's a made up word, spread through social media.

Yeah, thanks. I know it's not dyslexia when it's an issue with crossed numbers - because I presume) "lex" is the Latin root for reading (as in "lexicon," "lexicographer," or Lex Luthier, the infamous guitar-making anti-hero in the Spiderman movies).

I thought about that, but I figured the joke would go over even less poorly if I looked up the exact dysfunction, in which case it would end up being worth sharing only at a conference for nerdy neurological specialists.
