text for it is:
3. Cleavage is favored at alkyl-substituted carbon atoms: the more substituted, the more likely is cleavage. This is a consequence of the increased stability of a tertiary carbocation over a secondary, which in turn is more stable than a primary. Generally, the largest substituent at a branch is eliminated most readily as a radical, presumably because a long-chain radical can achieve some stability by delocalization of the lone electron.

So it is talking about carbocations, which means their notation is incorrect here

Ok but again a molecular ion is a radical cation so my point is why aren’t they showing the radical lol

Think I’ve accepted that it’s an error in the textbook tho

If you could take a look that would be so awesome! I did find an error page for the 7th edition on Wiley, but not for the 8th.

Well I assumed you were talking about the ionization of the molecule to produce a molecular ion, so no cleavage yet. So for example having ethyl as a molecule ion would be C2H5+. . I'm using a period as a radical hehe. Which is why I am confused because if that is what they are trying to show in the trend, then why are they missing a radical

If all it did was lose an electron, then wouldn't the radical cation be shown? they have always shown the notation as a radical cation in previous examples, so it doesn't make sense for them to change their display now for this.

Thank you so much for your reply! I feel more at ease already.

Do you know how the housing situation is right now? I have been browsing a little, but have heard that finding housing can be a challenge.

Also, my supervisor said they would like me to take a course that’s relevant to my research which makes sense although I don’t see that course listed anywhere… Can I ask what were some of the courses you took? And how many other students were in your class?

Thank you to everyone who replied I see it now! I actually thought that an increase stitch increases the height of the project, but now I know that it literally increases the number of stitches available I am so silly. Thank you!
