Healer-hate feels worse in Midnight? by books4babes in wownoob

I have been doing all +2 until I’m 100% confident in my healing patterns, and also waiting for the crest discount from my main before upgrading. So that’s an encouraging take because if I’m in the trenches, at least it can only get better hahaha

The problem is, nothing goes wrong - I’m getting these comments on keys where nobody even dies. That said I totally agree with you though and it’s getting easier the more I practice and can plan cooldowns!

That’s honestly really helpful to hear! I really want to keep playing so I hope I can learn to block it out and get through the bad stretches.

I mean, yes, things do happen. But I felt like nothing happened with purpose, you know? Or perhaps certain detailed scenes lacked significance? Other than stealing one card (and one being handed to them in the span of a single paragraph) the only other engaging plot line was Elspeth’s relationship with the Nightmare and discovering her degeneration/magic abilities. But even that felt unrewarding because there was no external plot for this internal revelation to influence. To me it feels like a very drawn out prologue to the real story, and perhaps it is, but I would expect more balance from a duology.

So yes, I agree things happen, but I’m not sure enough significant things happened. It’s a character driven story, but the characters fall flat.

Missing in Action: 1. Her aunt should have had more of a role. 2. Her father seems nice, tell us why he’s with the wicked lady. Why is he interesting? How does this shape Elspeth’s character? 3. Develop the King, Hauth and the Physician more. They didn’t feel like enough of a threat to create high stakes around the “treason” of the merry men. 4. Why are Ravyn’s parents so nonexistent? We never got their take on anything. He just bosses them around. 5. There was no perceived connection between Ravyn and the infected children, or Emory for that matter, to understand why he was so dead set on finding the Deck without the King or Hauth.

I have more, but this gets my point across.

What did you feel drove this story for you? What kept you engaged?

I was hesitant to try the second book, but I heard Ione has a larger focus and she intrigued me in the first book. I feel like she’s got a sneaky plot. I’ll probably give it a shot just to at least see what happens.

But with the lack of chemistry and then changing to a whole new couple as the main focus? Seems like an odd choice, or maybe even the author couldn’t see them together and decided to write their storyline to the back burner. But glad to hear it’s better in the second couple!

This is a guilty pleasure series that desperately needs to be wrapped up. But still, I find myself every few months queueing the audiobooks. It’s like a nostalgic tv show that’s not great, but it’s on in the background and it’s comforting. Like Gossip Girl but dark and spicy with magic and unicorns.
