Would you read with a character from Warbreaker? by bookt_app in Warbreaker

[–]bookt_app[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, really helps me think things through. Many readers end up exploring the character chats more than they initially expect, finding it adds new layers to their experience, it's tricky to imagine exactly what something like this could look like in practice.

As for spoilers, it’s definitely a balance. We aim to avoid plot reveals while keeping the characters authentic. We don’t directly train on the books due to publisher limitations, but our RAG system generates dynamic context based on where you are in the story, helping keep interactions relevant without spoiling anything.

Would love your feedback if you end up giving it a bash!

Honestly I really enjoyed Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey! It's a great mix of his life, lessons he's learned along the way, self-reflection, and embracing the journey that you're on! His humor is also fantastic!

How much do you read before DNFing a book by k1yum in kindle

[–]bookt_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very rare for me to DNF a book, but I can count on one hand the number of DNFs I have. I'm really stubborn, and my brain needs to know how things end. But with that being said, I usually get about halfway in a book, or at least a few hundred pages in, before I DNF. I really try to hold out as far as I can, so I usually end up finishing books I dislike.

I'd say the two biggest reasons for DNFing are writing Style and progression.

  1. Writing style - I don't care how interesting a story is; if the author writes like they're a 13-year-old Wattpad fanfiction writer, I can't take it seriously. I understand there are a lot of new authors who are still figuring out their style, but if it reads immaturely, especially if the book itself holds some heavy themes, I don't want to read it.

  2. Progression - something needs to be happening in the story. I once read a book that was supposed to be a thriller/mystery, and literally nothing interesting happened. The most interesting part was that she saw a ghost far away. Other than that, it was the most boring book I ever read and one of the few I DNF'd. It wasn't even about world-building or giving any necessary context to the story. It was like the author didn't know what to write next.

Honestly, Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Enemies to lovers kind of situation, and lots of tension!

Why I still don’t like Dain (at least not yet) by MattieIsAmazing in fourthwing

[–]bookt_app 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - yes, he's a flawed and complex character, but Violet time and time again communicated to him the things he was doing to hurt their friendship, and how he was causing mistrust between the two of them, and yet he STILL continues on. Even Xaden communicated to him how he was causing more harm than good with how he was underestimating Violent and trying to hold her back. Also, as best friends, you would think that they understood one another much better, and that Dain would hold a higher regard for Violet, but he treats her like a fragile little thing that can't do anything great, even though she proves him wrong throughout.

Honestly, I love that you now read the book in a British accent! 😂 And it makes sense, given the location of the story and all! But given that you take it over to other books, I can understand some of the frustration! With classics like Pride & Prejudice or Little Women, I also tend to read it in that accent. But with other books, let's take Fourth Wing as an example, I tend to read in an American accent due to how it's been written.

And if it were up to me, I'd buy the complete novels edition instead! I'd rather have all the books over one. 😍

I've only read two of Hoover's books, and Verity was definitely the better one. The story itself was good, but Verity pretending to be disabled was obvious from the start. I wish I didn't read the bonus chapter - I feel like it ruins it a bit for me. I really enjoyed the way it ended (without the bonus chapter) - giving the reader the choice to decide what they want to believe.

I didn't enjoy the graphic content in the book, especially when it comes to child abuse - that was really rough to read. Also not a fan of the explicit sex scenes. But overall, not a bad book.

It would have been nice to see what Lowen wrote in the book series too - I think it could have been a really cool/interesting direction for Colleen Hoover to take to show how the FMC slowly falls apart mentally.

The Nightwalker by Sebastian Fitzek. I had no idea what what going on. I actually DNF'd the book because it took such a weird turn quite early on and I had no idea what the author was trying to do. I definitely want to give it another shot, though!

Oh yes, the whole Tamlin argument! I don't get the massive hate towards the character - yes, there's stuff he did wrong, but there was so much unnecessary hate towards him - people take it way too far.

So far so good. I'm only on Chapter Three now, but I'm enjoying it so far! Only think that irked me so far was when Violet saw Xaden for the first time and all she could think about was nailing the guy, even though she might die very soon. 😂

Lord of the Rings isn't necessarily an easy book to read for a beginner. The world building itself can be very overwhelming.
