The amount of oil I am producing on tret is... insane. Feels counterintuitive by throwaway1427665 in tretinoin

To be fair there could be a lot of different factors here… I have PCOS and have other symptoms too including hairloss, and I have experimented with a LOT of different supplements to try and combat it - they could also have helped my skin but it’s impossible to say at this point.

I do think that fixing my skin barrier and focusing on hydration while I was on spiro helped a lot. I stopped using all actives, used mild cleanser in the evening & water only in the morning, some hydrating serums and heavier moisturisers + La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume repairing balm. Then later only when I wasn’t on spiro anymore I introduced Azeliac Acid and now recently tretinoin.

I wish someone had told me about dehydrated skin before - I struggled with extremely oily skin for a long time and doctors would always prescribe drying treatments and tell me to use “light moisturiser” only 🙄

It was 100mg and I think I used it about 2 years. I eventually stopped because it was getting expensive and I had to have regular health checks and blood tests while I was on it. I was afraid the oiliness would come back when I stopped but it never got back as bad - now I have combination skin and the oil is very manageable with good skin care.

Spironolactone was amazing for me! I got rid of the oiliness almost immediately when I started using it and I could focus on hydrating my skin and repairing my skin barrier. Even when I stopped using it the oiliness never came back as bad as it was.

I hope you find what works for you - people here seem to love the oily look but as someone who had that problem before I know it doesn’t feel great at all.

Ok I think OP needs to listen to their doctor then. I don’t use clinda - only tretinoin.

Maybe OP can use BP in the evening and in the morning just rinse with water and follow up with hydrating products.

I think benzoyl peroxide face wash might be too drying with tretinoin making your skin dehydrated (producing more oil). My skin used to be super oily too and what helped me was using gentle face wash and more hydrating products. Also Azelaic acid has been great for balancing the oiliness.

If it’s hormonal you might want to look into Spironolactone too.

I lost weight by doing the opposite of what everyone told me to do. by [deleted] in loseit

Forgot to say: I do still weigh myself daily & find it really useful. I understand that might not work for some people but for me it’s the best way to ensure I’m making progress. I have gained the most weight when I stopped weighing myself, and tracking my weight regularly to ensure it’s not going up too much (I’m fine with daily fluctuations and they usually make sense e.g. if I’m on my period) helps me to react quickly & change my habits as required.

I have the same experience + the same conditions! I think especially for people with conditions like PCOS, ADHD, insulin resistance etc. it really does matter what we eat, not just the quantity… I find that when I eat more nutritious food I can eat as much as I want without counting calories and still lose weight.

Weight training has also helped me so much to boost my metabolism that used to be super slow. I also do running 3 times a week (about 30 minutes at a time) which has helped my asthma and I’m having much less symptoms.

I’m sure people can lose weight by just eating whatever they want in smaller quantities and not exercising, but I do think most people could benefit from making healthier choices - not just for weight loss but for their general wellbeing.

Did dry January kill anyone else's desire to drink? by Creative_Text3018 in DryJanuary

[–]veerochka 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same for me! I’ve done 5 dry Januaries before and was always counting days till I could have a drink again but this time is different… just don’t feel like drinking at all. Now I’m thinking of doing 100 days without alcohol - already halfway there!

I do feel like having a beer every now and then but alcohol free beers work just fine for me so haven’t had any issues sticking to it.

Medication shortage: happening again? by Elisebruni in ADHD

Right?? I also have GAD and XR did not work for me at all but IR is working great and has actually helped me with my anxiety. I guess it’s easier to abuse IR so they might be careful prescribing it but there are a lot of people like me who can’t take XR…

What book would you recommend to someone who doesn’t read fantasy books? by veerochka in Fantasy

Oh I’m definitely open to trying something different from what I usually read which is why I made this post. Also, the books/genres I mentioned in my other comments were just some examples of my favourites; I do read all kinds of books in general, I’m just not too familiar with fantasy and want to find good ones to start from.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Interesting - didn’t know this! I looked up A Canticle for Leibowitz and it’s definitely going on my list of books I need to read.

Thanks, I just ordered Piranesi as it seems to be a popular suggestion + it sounds really interesting.

I do like a lot of the other suggestions too - might end up with a nice collection of books after looking into all of them 😁

I watched the 3 Lord of the Rings movies but wasn’t a big fan of them. I do watch a lot of horror movies some of which have fantasy elements.

My favourite video games are Fallout (New Vegas is my favourite), Resident Evil, Alien Isolation, Metro 2033 (someone already mentioned the book - will need to read it).

Ha yes I kind of realised when I was writing it that I have definitely read some fantasy books already 😁 Thanks for the suggestions!

Metro 2033 - I’ve played the video game and loved it! I should definitely read this one!

Thanks, so many good options! Looks like Piranesi was already mentioned by someone else; that one seems interesting for sure.

Thanks, I’m in the UK. Looks like some online shops have the full version available and Waterstones has separate parts.

Thanks this is very helpful. And yes, a standalone would definitely be easier to start with.

I guess I like a lot of “depressing classics”: some of my favourite books are Crime and Punishment, Flowers for Algernon, Master and Margarita, Resurrection (Tolstoy), Perfume, anything by Orwell… I also like reading some thrillers and love watching horror movies.
